I will one day very soon. Working on getting a job out of state to anywhere but Texas. I would love to go to TN, KY, NC, SC, or North GA. Very Pretty country. Those who have great friends that is wonderful but can they travel? People usually love to travel and think of the nice people you could meet. Life is an adventure!!

there is only one reason i would leave florida and thats because i miss the snow too much. Being born in NY, i never really learned to hate the snow..and i needed it for christmas. This last christmas was my first florida christmas and i miss the snow terribly. I hope this year isnt the same...i love florida soooooo much. but i keep wishing for snow....

My first Florida Christmas was an adjustment too. It just did not feel like the holidays at all. There are some wonderful places to go to get you in that christmas state of mind. Disney of course goes all out with shows and parades and if you attend Mickeys Very Merry Christmas party it snows on main street. The Gaylord Palms also has a show called Ice with fanciful ice scuptures its freezing cold in there and they even give you parkas to wear. The Orlando Art Museum has the festival of trees every year. The trees are decorated by artists and corporations and auctioned off for charity its a great place to get inspiration for your own tree. They have lots of holiday entertainment too. Go see a production of the nutcracker. Last year the rockettes were performing here in florida. It was like getting a taste of NY Christmas.

I beleive its not the place you live in but what you make of it. There are people that wander about and no matter where they live they are unhappy. They are basically unhappy people. I love to travel and it fufills my need to see and experience different places and people , but when its done I love coming home to florida. Florida is home , I did not end up here by circumstance I chose it.

actualy JF, I was at work, for phone company, in a centrel office, where your dial tone comes from, and at that time, if two many folks picked up there phone to dial at same time, office would lock up, not give anyone any DT, and set off alarms in other buildings, so, we knew where it was, and when it was, as it came down the coast..
but in order to see it, we had a black guy working with us, and we could only realy see it for a sec when it hit him......

That would have been a pretty cool thing to experience.. I get excited when it hails , I recall my daughter and going out into the yard and gathering some hail stones to put in the freezer.

I know alot of people like to complain about the northerers moving down here, although Im not a big fan of over crowding no matter who they are native or not ,I am glad that Florida is a melting pot and people move here from everywhere including from up north.
Find a town were everyone has lived there all there lives ,some may leave but no one comes and Ill show you a town were I would not want to live ,with plenty of prejudice and backward thinking people.

There is something to be said for diversity of cultures and backgrounds that come to a area with a mixing of people from all over.

Florida to many, is not really considered part of the deep South ,because unlike our surrounding states,we have so many northerers, they have changed our culture .
If you would like to know what Florida would be like if we didnt have this influx of people from everywhere ,just go to Alabama and stay there a while if you can stand it.

I guess I must be a product this northern influenced culture because most of my best friends over the years and the people I tend to get along with the most had moved here from up north.

You know what....I just thought of something. Many of you know I have a farm in Franklin, NC where I've lived for the past 25 yrs. I lived here in Pinellas Co. from '59 until '81, and I'm back here because of an inheritence. I'm not adjusting too well since my kids and g/kids are all back in Franklin, and I miss them all dearly. My point is, for the past 25 yrs., I've watched people from all over FL (many from Pinellas) move to Franklin and nearby towns. Many of my friends up there are originally from FL. WNC is the fastest growing part of the state and has been for several years. Maybe my life has just come full circle. I've lived here, I've lived there, now I'm here again. Like a circle. I think from now on, I'll just shut up and be grateful for even being alive and make the most of it.

You know, I think you are right.
Im not sure why there is a connection between North Carolina and Florida, but its evident in the large number of people that I have known in Florida that have moved up or vacation there.
My grandmother was the first of my family to anchor herself in Florida ]St Pete]
Back in 1910 at the age of 11,and for most of her life she made the summer trek to North Carolina .
The prefered vacation spot for floridians goes way back .
Maybe its because of focused advertising from that region ,but what ever the reason ,it seems to be a place that Floridians love to go,and if you have ever been there its easy to see why.

P.S.
If i ever left Florida ,North Carolina would be on the top of my list.
