have been her 15 years and I have noticed a big change. So much growth all around me. When I moved here Little road was one lane each way and nothing but woods. Now housing complexes and strip malls galore.

I remember Little road, south of dead mans corner when it was a dirt road.
I once lived in Moon Lake and New Port Richey.

I went house hunting in 2004 and started looking in Pasco, thinking that it was less built up than Pinellas; it didn't take long for me to drop the idea of looking in Pasco all together.
I ended up settling in Hernando.

One thing I really like about Hernando county is that they have set aside a lot of green space that can not be built on or developed and are designated as state forest .
The town I live in called Ridge Manor is surrounded by State forest and has a very progressive recycling program and exercising trails that go on for miles.

If your looking for an area with a little green space still left, you might consider Hernando or Citrus counties.

You know what....I just thought of something. Many of you know I have a farm in Franklin, NC where I've lived for the past 25 yrs. I lived here in Pinellas Co. from '59 until '81, and I'm back here because of an inheritence. I'm not adjusting too well since my kids and g/kids are all back in Franklin, and I miss them all dearly. My point is, for the past 25 yrs., I've watched people from all over FL (many from Pinellas) move to Franklin and nearby towns. Many of my friends up there are originally from FL. WNC is the fastest growing part of the state and has been for several years. Maybe my life has just come full circle. I've lived here, I've lived there, now I'm here again. Like a circle. I think from now on, I'll just shut up and be grateful for even being alive and make the most of it.

Here it is almost 2 years later, and I did make the most of it for as long as I could. But tomorrow, I am leaving FL with my cargo trailer packed to the gills with furniture, books, Christmas decorations, etc. to go back to my farm in the mountains of NC. I'll be back sometime this summer and rent a Penske to haul back the rest of the stuff.
I was learning to love Pinellas County but between the high property taxes, high insurance premiums, and now talk of raising the power bills this summer (you watch, utilities and cable will be next), etc......I've had enough! I can't support two places anymore at FL's, constantly climbing, cost of living here. So early tomorrow, I'm hitting I-75 north........it's time to start another circle.....adios all!

There really is a distinct difference. I live in Orlando and when I moved here Disney World was still fairly new. Six years old. Orlando was still like a butterfly that freshly emerged from its cocoon. Orlando in some ways was still a small town in some ways. Downtown only had Church Street Station. There was a JC Penney and a Mcorys, and a few little odd businesses here and there. Life was a slower pace. There was less traffic, far less crime, safer neighborhoods, and greater trust in your neighbors. I was floored back then after living in a Urban Metropolis all my life. People here in Orlando and in Florida were just downright hospitable. There was a layed back feeling over all. People seemed happier and more content.

Flash Foward Thirty years. There is now tremendous growth in Florida. The population soars, there are less open spaces, traffic increases, crime continues to rise, and we become plagued with problems synomous with large cities. With change there becomes a change in the people in response to their environment.Stress and hectic life styles seems to create a more "its all about me mentality". I recall a time where I knew all my neighbors. We all kind of looked out for one another. We looked out for each others children. Its different now. I can walk through my neighborhood and people will smile, wave and say hello. Thirty years ago neighbors would invite you in.Thirty years ago you could keep your door unlocked and most people did not have a security system. There was a greater sense of trust.Technology has also impacted our lives. All these great gadgets have made us less social. Children play outside less and we spend less time entertaining friends and family as in the past. We are a different society.

Each new generation will have their own tales to tell. My Grandparents and parents would talk about a time in NYC that was very foreign to me.

Yeah my parents tell me quite often how our neighbors arnt really neighbors, like how their used too. They never come over, we barely say hi to each other . We pretty much dont know anything about our neighbors at all. But it has been like this ever since i was a child

My neighborhood is slowly transforming into college housing. Since the real estate market is not ideal right now, neighbors that have moved are renting their homes to UCF college students. There are some living next door to me and another bunch across the street. I have to say they have been very cool neighbors so far. They tote heavy stuff for me and are pretty considerate. No wild parties so far.. and if they do have them they need to invite me

I have to admit the people in our area are really nice.....kind of scary in a way too. We joke all the time about it being a Stepford wives type of sub division....people wave to each other, help each other, ask you to keep an eye on things while they are out of town and omg, kids play outside all the time.

I left Florida last month...for love in NC...but honestly, prior to the love, I was thinking about leaving Florida anyway. A friend and I went to the beach one day and there was so many "formerly living" creatures washed up on the shore...it looked like coral. It was obvious that it had once lived at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. As we walked there were more and more of these dead creatures...I was heart broken. The very beach that we walked was the one that my Father used to take us to when we were kids...we would load up the car, the dog, floats and headed out for the beach. We parked the car along the Pine Trees that once lined the coast and walked a good 50 yards or more before we could catch a wave. The coquina's would come up out of the sand when we walked. Such vivid colors! The day that my girlfriend and I went there were no coquina's, only dead creatures. Florida is a beautiful state that has been taken advantage of by visitors and people that do not appreciate natural beauty. It's really a shame...

Florida sucks, its too hot and the roads are full of traffic gridlock.

Florida is a wonderfully beautiful state with many natural wonders and has been the place I have called home for most of my life.

Which is true?
Maybe a little of both.
Florida is a true dichotomy.

Florida is a true dichotomy.

Watch your language, Mister...

I'm sitting here chilled...at 5 a.m., and thinking the summer here is
the best.
And in the winter...I'm thinking it's the worst.
Maybe MA is a dichotomy. OOh..I feel so naughty when I say that.

The suns deadly rays were unmericiful , beads of sweat covered my forehead. There was no shade to escape to. My cold water at my side was no longer cold, it bordered on luke warm and soon that would change as well. I shielded my eyes from the blinding light as I tried to observe the people coming toward me. They moved slowly, discomfort and fatigue was worn across their faces. My job would be difficult , the sun was my nemesis. My fresh pressed clothing was wilting in the brazen heat and sunset was hours away.I looked above for a rain cloud, all I saw was clear blue skies. So picture perfect, yet so perilous. Oh my Florida you are a tough one this time of year.

Florida in summer is so unkind to my hair. As soon as I step outdoors it grows to monsterous proportions from the humidity. All hair care products are no match for my follicles and the wicked heat of summer.

Dove wrote in Sept. 2006:

We live in a wonderful and diverse state, I am proud to call it home. I have friends scattered all over the state so I get the chance to travel often to visit. My home away from home is the Florida panhandle, some of my closest friends and dearest friends live there. They also enjoy visiting me here in Orlando. I have said time and time again, home is what you make of it. So many think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. As long as I have wonderful and good people in my life , I think I can be happy nearly anywhere.

I lived in south Florida for 5 1/2 years when I was married to my first husband. I liked it at first, but got so homesick for my family. Now, I am moving back. My daughter always called Florida HOME, and she moved back down there when she turned 18. She is now married, with a wonderful little guy that calls me GRANNNNY!!! My nephew and his daughter are also down there now. I now have as much family there as up here. (IN) Then the BONUS, I met a man on here that I have fallen madly in love with, and he has agreed to become my husband... So here I come in a couple months!
