in the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faithbecomes an amercian andassimilateshimself to us.he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed,or birthplace...or origin.but this is predicated upon the mans becoming in very fact an amercian, and nothing more than a amercian....there can be no divided....allegiance here.any man who says he is an amercan, but something else also, isn,t an amercan at all. we have room for but one flag, the amercian flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any FOREIGN FLAG OF A NATION TO which we are hostile.....we have room for one LANGUAGE HERE,AND that is the ENGLISH language ..and we have room forone sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the american people...... theodore roosevelt 1907.......

I agree. I came here already speaking perfect English and have tried to absorb as much as I can of this culture. Of course, it's also impossible to erase 20+ years of upbringing in my culture of birth so I do appreciate it when people keep that in mind too... Tolerance is a quality everyone should cultivate!

I am Bi-Lingual and very proud. Soon I will be Multi-Lingual, even prouder. I oppologize to know one because I continue to embrace my roots, my culture, it is the essence of who I am. I have no accents, other than a regional Nacireman dialect and I am extremely fluent in the prevalent culture, more so than those who espouse "nationalism", those who forget from whence they came, those who have no true appreciation of where they live. Why those wars were fought and so many died. It's no stretch at all to hear the echo of Nazism in proclaiments that individuality and cultural differences are detrimental to any society.

As people we all search for a higher calling ,something we can believe in stongly ,and some people choose patriotism to be there cause of choice.
But if you look at the history of patriotism it is rot with exclusion and intolerance to others outside a border that only exist in the mind of men.

Its the my yard is better than your yard ,or you cant play in my sand box syndrome .
A human life is a human life and should be treasured reguardless of which side of the border it is on, or what language you speak.

Love and compassion towards each other shouldnt be limited by borders .
Yes Im a american citizen, but Im also more importantly a world citizen.

I agree with you Ken...I have been put though H.... because I didn't marry someone born in the USA. My ex is from Turkey, he was legal before I even met him. His english wasn't perfect, but he was working on it and taking classes to read and write English. Just because he was born in a different country didn't make him any less of a person. It has never mattered to me where a person was born, they are a person regardless. I refuse to judge a person just because they weren't born here. One of my best friends parents were from Poland, even now his mom's English can be a little rough, but I wouldn't trade the stories and things she has taught me over the last 20 something years.

Well my fathers parents were immigrants from Austria and Hungary in 1900 but they had one belief when they came to America and that was you are now American. The learned English before they came and they assimilated into the culture. That is not to say that they may have spoke a foreign language sometimes in there home but never in public. They also kept some of there native culture alive in celebration and cooking. They never flew a foreign flag though.
Now my mothers family was Native American-Ojibwe and Sioux and French, German, Scottish and English. The non-native part came to America in 1620.
But hey if my Native American side wanted to take a stand every non-native is a foreigner. So see it is just a matter of how you look at it. I do have a problem with illegal aliens though in as much coming in and over taxing the social systems and expecting the culture as a whole to conform to them.

As stated below, the Senate has voted to allow illegal aliens to access to Social Security benefits.

Attached is an opportunity to sign a petition that requires citizenship for eligibility to that social service. You can Agree or Delete. Instructions are below.

PETITION FOR: President Bush , Gov. Schwarzenegger and Congressman Dana Rohrbacher

Gentlemen and Mr. President: The petition below is a protest against what the senate voted on recently which was to allow illegals to access our social security! We demand that you and all congressional representative require citizenship for anyone to be eligible for social services in the United States. We further demand that there not be any amnesty given to illegals, and NO free services or funding, or payments to and for illegal immigrants. We are fed up with the lack of action about this matter and are tired of "paying" for services to illegals! Tell Senor Fox to pay for his own
people!

[I]so far my email had a little more than half needed to send off the petition - this is sparking a huge debate

Contrary to popular believe Non American Immigrants are not a drain on society and for the most part are being used as an escape goat.

A number of studies have concluded that if you take the income they bring in which includes very low pay for work ,and then factor the out going living expenses like predatory rent , often from their employer, to all the other cost that we all pay living in this country, there is a net gain for our country .
Now you want to talk about a drain on our country, go after the big company CEO's,they recieve extreme amounts of money, compared to what they return back to society.
And then there is another issue to consider ,the immigrants do the jobs that americans dont want to do like picking oranges .
Orange growers are already in my area reporting that for the first time in years oranges are rotting on the trees because there are not enough people to pick them since the crack down at the border .
Non American immigrants benefit our society.

I agree. It's only fair. Other countries would never put up with this type of behavior from the non-citizens residing in their lands. ...and neither should we.

I think he just got himself an new profile, I think he posted something on the men 40 and dating site!!!! Nope that would be the rude one, eyesonyou.... I am not positive, but have a feeling, but if it is him, I will not get into it with him, will just have him booted again if he starts his crap, and that goes for anyone else that starts bashing anyone on these forums. This is not a bash fest here....

I strongly believe that what I contribute to the social security system should only be for my social security, when I can no longer work or retire, as well as the social security for those who also contributed to the system. With this said, what should be done with the funds contributed to the system, by "illegal aliens", who do not declare at the end of the year, and do not benefit from refunds, but contribute to the fund non-the-less. How should we distribute the taxes they pay on purchases? Or the taxes paid by landlords and other predators on outrageous rents and fees? I've tried to stop and think, but I keep looking up for fear that an alien may fall on me, how are they making it through our atmosphere, without burning up? Are they getting here on our shuttles?

Sorry folks, couldn't help it. I see the coward cancelled his profile. To those in the know, please give me a heads up if he should appear again, I'd rather flirt.

Heres a thought to ponder, there are thousands of in-mates sitting on their butts and we are paying them to do that. How about making them go pick the oranges? And if there's that big of a crop then isn't that great for the farmers and orange juice producers. At least we won't see orange juice prices soaring!
