My oldest son is leaving the nest I knew the day would come but I wasn’t ready for it. I don’t think I really ever could be ready for this leap he is taken. Seems like just yesterday he was holding my hands and taken his first steps now he is ready to spring the nest. Wow I’m so happy for him but at the same time I am so sad wont feel the same with out him here.
However does a mother deal with the mixed feelings and emotions that come when her child reaches adult hood and moves out ?

My daughter left home last year and as much as I wanted this for both of us, it took some doing to get used to. The quiet in the house was not easy to bear. The way I looked at it, this was just another developmental milestone a rite of passage into adulthood. What I discovered through this change in our lives is just how remarkable my daughter truely is. I felt a sense of accomplishment that my parenting set the foundation for her future . To deal with the sense of seperation I kept really busy. I did projects around the house, did some traveling on the weekend. I did discover that even when they leave the nest they still need you. My daughter still calls when there is a crisis, and turns to me for emotional support. I think we spend more time together now then when she was still at home. She still refers her old bedroom as her bedroom. Missy you will adjust and I promise you he still need you.

My daughter left home for college, luckily it was only 45 minutes away. I went and saw her every weekend and her dorm mates loved it as I usually took a bag of groceries and a bag of stuff from the dollar store. I didn't stay long, but needed to still see her every week anyhow. Now she is married and has a daughter and still lives in her college town and I have moved to Florida about 2 yrs. ago. I miss her so much and go to visit her about 5-6 timea a year and fly her and her hubby and my granddaughter down here evrey year. We also talk on the phone almost every day. But ya know, ya gotta cut the apron strings and let them live their lives. Hopefully you have taught them strong morals and taught them how to survive. My daughter is doing good, but I still miss her alot!
