Carry a backpack with a 2-liter bottle of water in it (or any beverage you like)... that is, if you will be walking a lot..
And enjoy your trip. The parking's free at some of the beaches! Unfortunately, gas is a little more expensive and lodging is very much so.
Be sure to stop by the buoy marking the Southern most point in the continental U.S, if you haven't done it already. (You may regret it if you don't. )

I adore the Keys, especially Islamorada. Smuggler's Cove, Islamorada Fish Co, and the Green Turtle are great places to eat.

Ever been to Fisherman's Wharf in Key Largo? (Near Mile Marker 102, I think...)
I ate there about twelve years ago.
All I know is, they have GREAT pasta!

I have not been in the Keys in eons.. I got the worse sunburn in my life there. I was young and naive. I was floating blissfully on a raft near summers end and thought that since I had a good base tan there was no way I was going to burn. I got sun poisoning and was in agony. Could not wear under wear for a while after. I was really suffering. The Keys are beautiful though I would love to go back one day.. will not be worshipping the sun again though.

Sunburns are the pits. You can get sunburned from just sitting on the beach (or at least I can). That's why I don't like to go to the beach before 2 or 3 PM . The ocean water's most pleasant at around 4 in the afternoon.

I loved Key West. I spent about a month there. The main drawback, its expensive! I helped set up the Home Depot there about four years ago and stayed at the Hampton Inn next door (in "new town", the retail district), and our corporate rate was $90 a night.
If you go, spend at least two full nights there. Get a scooter (rent from New Town, its cheaper than the old district), and go jet skiing. If you want to dance, visit Rick's bar. Irish Kevin's is a staple as well. Watch out for some of the buffet places. The bar and grill restaurants tend to be pretty good on average and you can't go wrong with Hard Rock Cafe. Ahhh to go back again.

First of all welcome to the forums AXM .. its great to see some new folks posting here.
I would imagine a month in the keys would be a small peice of heaven.. I was considering cruising on Carnival from Tampa to Key West to Calica( in the yucatan penisula) and back to Tampa. Its a short cruise and not too pricey and I would not have to worry about the lodging in the Keys. All this talk about the Keys has me motivated to go.
Cream I hope you get to go on your trip, you will have to tell us all about it, when you get back.

Being there for five weeks was a unique experience. Well... I did come home for two of the weekends (flew once and drove the other time). However, it really felt good to actually get off the island once it was over. You can't drive fast and you really can't get very far. I drove home for good in the evening and got a ticket 35 miles into the drive. 68 in a 45. For those of you who have never made the drive... the cops are all over US 1 throughout the Keys.

Been there once. Took the day cruise from Ft Myers and I loved it. Wish I could have stayed for the weekend. Wanted to but the person I was with was super drunk and he was cheating on me under my nose. He told me all about the other woman and what she wanted. Why was I there then with him? Would have been better if I went by myself. Have been trying to get a job there but so far no luck.
