Ken and Honeybear both had a run in with the same person who chooses to show a very negative side of himself. One of the things he claims to be is Druid. From what I understand about Druid's, his reasoning behind his logic does not make sense to me. I don't feel that a superior race that is genetically engineered, the wide spread annihilation of any child or fetus that is not perfect is what the religion is about. He also feels people should be in a certain "class" money wise and IQ wise to be allowed to have children. Again I feel this goes against what most religions (including Druids) teach. Now going by the 11 codes of conduct, I guess you can twist # 7 to suit your needs, therefore, giving him some play into his feelings of this superior race.

There is a lot of confusion about the Druid religion as no writings from that time period survived. A basic understanding of what the modern day druid believes and their ethics is below:

Athelia Nihtscada also turns to Irish source material to explore Druid ethics. The old Brehon laws, which were recorded by Christian clerics in the 5th century CE, pre-dated Christianity and offer a fascinating insight into early Irish society. By studying these laws and seeing how they might be applicable to modern living, Nihtscada has articulated eleven principles or codes of conduct for the contemporary Druid:

1. Every action has a consequence that must be observed and you must be prepared to compensate for your actions if required.

2. All life is sacred and all are responsible for seeing that this standard is upheld.

3. You do still live in society and are bound by its rules.

4. Work with high standards.

5. Make an honest living.

6. Be a good host as well as a good guest.

7. Take care of yourself. (Health was held in high esteem amongst the Celts, so much that a person could be fined for being grossly overweight due to lack of care.)

8. Serve your community.

9. Maintain a healthy balance of the spiritual and mundane.
(Nihtscad writes: ‘Ethical and self respecting Druids did nothing without being properly schooled or aware of the consequences ahead of time. They knew when it was appropriate to visit the Otherworld and immerse themselves in the spiritual as well as when it was appropriate to be fully in this world.’)

10. Uphold the Truth, starting with yourself.

11. Be sure in your convictions, particularly when judging or accusing someone, but also when debating. Ask yourself: are you really sure? Do you really know that this the case?

Being of Value to Others and the world

Druidism does not encourage us to focus exclusively on our own spiritual development. Druids care passionately about the state of the world – about the suffering of humans and animals, and of Mother Earth. The belief that many Druids hold in the importance of Peace influences their actions profoundly, and most Druids are involved in initiatives to protect the environment. Some may simply contribute to Greenpeace or Friends of the Earth, others may be more actively involved in trying to protect species or habitats. Most will support tree-planting and reforestation projects in particular.

Thank you Witchie. Very good explanation. That person is about as far away from the true Druid path as can be. With such hate in his heart, I know of no faith/belief that he could be a part of. He seems to be a spawn of satan. I wonder what happened in his life to make him so bitter and hateful of his fellow human beings. There is room on this earth for all to walk and to even entertain thoughts of doing harm to those born or unborn is way out of bounds. In my opinion, he needs to be pitied, needs our prayers and definely needs professional help.

Peace and Love to all no matter what our differences may be

Thanks

A lot of stuff is out there about the different pagan (for lack of a better term) religions. Over the years I have checked out a lot of them. Now just so you all get a better understanding of me, I thought I would try to explain a little bit.

I am not a traditional Wiccan, believe it or not, they have a couple of terms for me...one is Eclectic Witch and the other is Kitchen Witch. I have never felt completely comfortable with any organized religion and choosing my own path is what has always felt right to me. I'm not one for someone telling me what I should or shouldn't believe or feel is right. That stubborn Taurus in me I guess...lol My main path has always been healing and working with animals.

Eclectic Witch: An Eclectic Witch follows what they feel is right, there is no set Tradition for an Eclectic Witch. They have a vast knowledge of and a respectful forte in healing and magickal qualities of plants and stones, flowers, trees, elemental spirits.

Kitchen Witch: Basically, this type is one who practices by hearth and home, dealing with the practical side of religion, magick, the earth and the elements.

Witchie...it sound like you are very close to mother earth and understand some of the mysteries of our planet. I would like to learn more about it. You will have to fill me in sometime.

If we all could keep love, compassion, and respect of others and our world, in our hearts this would truly be a wonderful place to be.

I never knew Druidism was an actual religion with a set of beliefs that people practiced these days. I thought it was something strictly of mythology.

I think of how religions like this and Wicca would've been brutally persecuted in Colonial times (e.g. the Salem Witch hunts), and even today in certain parts of the world.

There is a practice in China called Falun Gong, which is outlawed there. From what I gather, this is a peaceful religion, and yet those who attempt to practice it in China are persecuted and punished severely. It makes me very appreciative of our right here in the U.S. to believe (or to not believe) as we see fit.

The sad part is the women persecuted in Ireland and Scotland were mostly midwives or healers. Back then you didn't have a doctor, you went to the village healer for herbs and whatnot. Different cures were handed down though the females in the family, which is why mostly women were charged. When the crusades came about, these women were charged with being witches and put to death. It wasn't even a religious thing with these people, it was a way of life. With the Salem Witch hunts a few of them were charged just if something went wrong for another person and the one being charged had made a comment against the person. Say I was ticked at you and said, I wish his business would fail. You messed up your accounting and you business failed. You could charge me with witchcraft as they were so gun ho on this, they felt just a comment was a spell. If a man cheated on his wife, he blamed the women he was caught with, claimed she bewitched him and she was found guilty of witchcraft.
