Spring break has begun for me as of today. I am on a tight budget , but wanted to some fun things that either low cost of free. I suggested we go visit some of the older attractions in Florida..like Gatorland, Cypress Springs, Weeki Wachie Springs. The winery in clermont is someplace I have always wanted to visit. Anyone have some fun ideas to do in the central florida area that will not break the bank.We have Sun - Weds to Achieve it all.

How about Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park? I love that place. It isn't expensive to go to and Crystal River isn't far from there. Both are great places to wander around, relax and bring a picnic lunch with you to enjoy by the springs. The cost for the wildlife park is 9.00 a person
Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park
If I remember correctly Crystal River Preserve is like 3.00 a person.

Thanks Witchie.. Homosassa Springs sounds like fun. We will give it a try on Tuesday. We are headed to a Universal resort today( of all places) We decided to take advantage of the employee discount for two nights. We will pretend to be tourists and just play in the parks. Something I rarely do these days. I looked into Disney Hotels but even the economy resorts are VERY PRICEY right now. We use to stay all the time. I think we have stayed at most of them at one time or another accept Animal Kingdom Lodge and a couple of others. I love staying on Disney Property , its awesome.

Do not worry EA we did not do the winery tour yet. We have to make definite plans to go when you visit next.
Playing tourist was hard work but we had a blast. Citywalk has a new venue and its great fun. Its called Rising Star. Its a high class version of karaoke. You sing with a full band and back up singers. Right now they have a limited song choice.. just 60 songs to choose from but that will be expanded. They opened their doors two weeks ago. Drinks are a bit pricey and their is a cover charge..7.00 ( free for me as an employee) I would not have minded the cover charge though, it would have been worth it. You can always get a party pass that gets you into all the clubs for 11.99.

Check out your local museum membership. In Tampa I am a member of MOSI and with that membership I can take short day trips to several other museums around Florida or even the country and see them for free!
I also like visiting some of the small towns and just exploring their shops and restaurants. I am blanking on the names, but there are quite a few.
If you are near Tampa there is a great book called One Tank Trips, it is your best source of ideas.
Also check out Captain Allen Fiske at www.minimumbalance.com He operates a charter sailing vessel out of Bradenton. It is a great way to enjoy the Florida lifestyle.

Going to the beach would be a fun adventure. Plus it's free. Florida thankfully still has some great things to do that cost little to nothing to enjoy. We have some beautiful parks to picnic in. Lakes and Rivers to paddle on. I live in East Orlando and one of my favorite places to visit is Back to Nature wild life refuge. Back to nature rehabilitates injured wild life and releases them back into the wild. They also are home to animals that would not be able to survive back in nature. They cost nothing to visit but donations are encouraged. They are always looking for supplies too to help care for the animals. They do a wonderful job and do a great job educating children and adults alike.
Of course I have to mention Disney Fort Wilderness camp ground. It costs nothing to visit and you can enjoy their amenities for the day. A petting zoo for children. The large Clydesdale horses that pull the trolly down mainstreet are housed there and you can watch them shoe the horses. In the evening, you can watch disney movies under the stars and attend their campfire program. You can head to the beach and watch the electrical water pagent. I love fort wilderness.
Eyesee I am a museum lover as well. The orlando Art museum has a wonderful permanent collection. Recently I went to see the Norman Rockwell exhibit when it came to town. I am very fond of the Ringling museum in Sarasota. I can and have spent hours there.
I love local theatre too. I am always looking for a theatre buddy to attend plays with. I am looking foward to orlando fringe festival again this year.

My sweet son... you made me laugh, and you are soooo right It did sound like a public relations commentary.
As a single mom I have always looked for fun things to do with my daughter that would not break the bank when she was growing up. Central florida has so much to offer. Heres another fun place especially for children. Legoland at down town Disney. The lego figures are fascinating to see and the kids get a hands on experience creating their own lego master peices.
Also Disney related and cost free is riding the monorail and cruising around on the boats that take you to the different Disney Hotels. We loved going hotel hopping and getting a taste of Disney without having to step foot in the parks.
Fort Christmas is a fun place to visit as well. Pack a picnic lunch , explore the old fort and artifacts and the old homes from florida way back when.
As mentioned before the Beach is always a great option too. I have never been much of a sun worshipper , but do enjoy a walk on the beach with my feet in the surf and picking up shells. Its a great place to people watch too.

Do not worry EA we did not do the winery tour yet. We have to make definite plans to go when you visit next. Dove when you plan to go to the winery, call ahead to check for the events when planning your visit there. I've been to the winery a couple of times. The days I went, they had an event going on. Without the events the only thing that was on the tour is, you go in this door where they have the vats and your sample like 4 or 5 wines and then go to the gift shop when you can buy the wines and racks and that. The couple times that I went was when they had like a craft festival. Some of the things there were kind of neat. I think it was like last week they had a blues event.
The number to the winery is: 1-800-768-WINE

I will be sure to check Honbee before I go to the winery. EAngel and I have talked about going forever. Next time she comes to town we are going to have to FINALLY go. Maybe a bunch of us could meet up and go together. EAngel is my fine wine mentor. She has shared some of the best tasting wine with me. She really knows her wines.
Paper_heart tune into tomorrow for another Public service announcement

hey doves...you could always travel to the panhandle sometime...wouldn't mind if you stopped by at all Swift I know I am long over due for a visit. I miss my panhandle family a great deal. Gas prices has kept me away. I know I will always have a place to stay when I come visit. Hey do you still like drinking Fuzzy Navels?
I may as well do by tourism advertisement for the Emerald Coast of Florida. Towns like Fort Walton, Shalimar, Niceville, Destin, Mary Esther, Pensacola to name a few have the most magnificent beaches I have ever visited. Sugar White sands and warm sparkling emerald water. The beaches are so clean and inviting. We had some memorable Beach Parties didnt we Swift?
One of my favorite Panhandle parties was held at Crab Island - the ultimate party destination in Destin. Just pull your boat up on the sand bars on the bay side of the East Pass and enjoy the live entertainment. We had rented a pontoon boat and partied all day.( we also got stranded at sea and called local radio station for help.. They dedicated a song to us) We were red like lobsters but had a hell of a time.
Later that night we continued the party at Helen Back on Okaloosa Island. You just never knew wh you were going to run into at Helen back. You always found someone you know.
