Wednesday was the last day of school in Orange County. Even though I work with the youngest school population I could not get Alice Coopers lyrics out of my mind this week. The songs lyrics may be too intense for pre-schoolers so I was rather surprised to see that Alice Cooper performed his song with the muppets. Check it out its pretty cool.

There is something magical about the last day of school from a teachers prospective. I look at these small children and marvel at their accomplishments. It was not so long ago that they walked into their classrooms clinging to their parents legs. They evolved into confident young learners ready to embrace the next level of learning. They learned all their letters and numbers, and had a good grasp of phonological awareness. They learned social skills and became problem solvers. They learned rhyming words and geometry. They developed a love for books and could tell you what an author and illustrator does. They became computer literate. They could tell you about current events as well as their favorite cartoon. These fantastic beautiful children are so wise and wordly inspite of their few years on this earth. I feel proud of them and will miss them.
To all my fellow teachers out there I salute you for a job well done. You really do make a difference

I grew up to respect our teachers. I think that needs to be re-implemented (is that a real word???? ) and parents need to discipline their children more (referring to older children). Just my opinion.

Tech girl yes times have changed for sure. Teachers although invaluable are not held in regard as they should. There was a time ( long ago) that teachers had to live by a very strict moral code. Teachers were the pillars of the community. I cringe when I read about Teachers who fall from grace, and abuse their position of authority with their students. Sadly there was another case in the news today regarding a teacher in Florida having sex with her students.
You mention parents needing to discipline their older children more. There would be less need for it if discipline and limits are enforced with young children. Parents and teachers working as a team can teach the six pillars of character... trust-worth-iness, respect, responsibility, caring, fairness and citizenship. Teaching social skills is as important as teaching academics, we sometimes forget this. When we do forget we create a generation of children who have no boundaries and may be our future prison population. This is so important.
Whitwhit.. welcome to the wonderful world of teaching. You may never be wealthy , but you will reap rewards when you help mold a young mind on the path to success.

So I am guessing College is out of the question for you then
I honestly cannot say I loved school as a child. I was terribly shy and tried to blend into the background and prayed the teacher would not call on me. I did not want to be noticed and did my best to stay under the teachers radar.
In middle school I came out of my shell. Got involved in extracurricular activities, volunteered to be a teachers assistant. Joined the art club, and the drama club and tried to be a good student.
High School was a pandora's box of challenges. I was selected to attend the High School of Art and Design. There were some extremely talented kids there and I felt less worthy. High School became party time. I skipped my academic classes and attended my art classes. Some days I ditched school all together. My school was in the heart of manhatten and I spent many a day in Bloomingdales, The Village, Ripleys wax museum and hung around the theatre district. I did eventually get caught and was in Big trouble at home.
College was amazing and out of the blue I decided to take life more seriously. I became a outstanding student. A nearly perfect GPA and on the deans list and presidents list. I still love to learn and to keep my mind challenged.
