It sits across the river from Las Olas Riverfront, out of the spotlight of chic and hip. The Downtowner survives and thrives as it has for years thanks to a following of longtime locals, loyal regulars and passing yachties. The attractive, labyrinthine layout of this historic building has a rich history. The decor has a museum feel, mixing electronic games and a '40s-era gas pump. Want to sit at a bar and watch yachts glide by? Prefer to take in big-screen sports over a four-course meal? Favor the nightlife with live music? Or a quiet chat under a leafy overhang on a patio? Downtowner offers it all.

Music is a melange of local regulars. When there's a street festival or holiday-related event, the Downtowner is front and center. You can drive, stroll or arrive by boat. (In addition to moorings, the Water Taxi and Water Bus make regular stops.)

There are nearly a dozen drafts amid the variety of brews. Service at the bar is reliably fast and friendly. The menu leans to seafood but is varied and moderately priced.
