No, it's not. The guy was known to be armed, and known to shoot cops. When he wouldn't show his hand, the officer had to realize he had a gun in that hand, and had a nano-second (not having the leisure to sit around and read about it in the paper while having his morning coffee) to decide to protect his own life and those of the other officers.

lus79 wake up do you really believe the lies the police said that they could not see his hands. cop killer or not this was murder shooting the man 80 times. every person has rights they should have brought him in alive but no, they shot him 80 times they made sure he was dead. as i see its murder and i hope the guys family sues for civils rights violation... i bet if he would have been white he would have lived and dont come back at me with the race card because if you look at my post you will see where i stand on that ..but this is where you have to draw the line .the african amercian had rights ..and the lakeland police knew they would shoot first ask questioneds later...

Funny that you mention the race of the cop-killer, but fail to mention the race of two murdered officers, nor do you mention the race of the officers (if 80 rounds were fired, there had to be more than one).
What civil rights did they violate? And why are you assumming they're lying?

Well, yes when this man (no matter what his race) shot two police officers it was murder. Why is it that the criminals today have more rights than the victims, because lawyers say so? I lived in New Orleans and time after time I watched murders, rapist, child molesters, you name it, walk out of jails because their rights were broken. What the hell is it that goes through peoples minds when they say "Is it murder" when a Police officer kills a person that has shown total disregaurd for human life as well as the law. What do you think the victims families are going through? Do you even care if there were children waiting on their daddies to come home? I know that there are good as well as bad police officers out there, but you can rest assured that there's one less bad guy out there to bring harm to your family tonight.

No it was not murder. The Swat team ordered him to raise both his hands, he had the 45 caliber weapon in his hand that belonged to the slain officer. The killer chose his own demise because he didn't show both hands. The officer that was shot had a wife and three children , he was the victim , not the man who made the choice to shoot the officer. The Hundreds of law enforcement officers from across the state that participated in the manhunt did so because they are a tight knit community when it comes to one of their own being gunned down in the line of duty.

It seems that those who want to condemn law enforcement are those who were or are on the wrong side of the law themselves.

Dove, do you have the link to the newspaper article handy? I guess it would be a copyright violation to copy and paste it here.

No I do not but I am sure you could look it up and if you give credit to the source , I am sure it would be okay to copy and paste it.

I also recall tht the officer was killed on his wifes birthday. This day which was once a celebration will now be a source of grief for her the rest of her life.

Suspect in Fla. Deputy Shooting Killed
By STEPHEN MAJORS, AP ONLINE

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - A man suspected of killing a sheriff's deputy was shot to death in the woods by police Friday after an all-night manhunt in which searchers walked shoulder-to-shoulder through the tangled brush.

SWAT members did not see the man until they were beside him because he had dug himself in beneath a fallen oak tree, Sheriff Grady Judd said.

The man refused to show both hands when officers commanded him to, and they opened fire when it appeared he was carrying the slain deputy's gun, Judd said. It was unclear if the man also fired the weapon.

"The killer chose his end because he didn't show both hands," Judd said. "I trust God to be the judge and jury better than anyone on earth."

Hundreds of officers had used night-vision scopes, tracking dogs, helicopters and door-to-door searches to locate the man. He was found just 100 yards from where Deputy Vernon Matthew Williams was killed Thursday after a traffic stoop.

Another deputy, Douglas Speirs, had pulled the man over for speeding and became suspicious of his identification. The man got nervous and bolted into the woods, the sheriff said.

Speirs called for backup. Williams arrived and they began tracking the motorist into the woods, Judd said. The man fired on them, killing Williams, 39, and his police dog, Judd said. Speirs, also 39, was shot in the leg but was not seriously hurt.

The gunman was tentatively identified as Angelo Freeland of Miami, but the sheriff said he used many aliases. Judd said officials were confident he was involved in drug dealing because they found a book in his car detailing his illegal trade.

Regardless of color...a murderer is off the streets. You can't blame the police for shooting a man that wouldn't show his hands, and he's already killed one man and shot another. Why wouldn't he just stand and raise his hands? He chose his fate whern he refused. No, it wasn't murder.....it was self defense.

You know, Ricky's right. What the police should have done was walk up to him nice and slowly, cookie in hand, tell him that they're not upset that two of their fellow officers were killed, and offer to take him out for ice cream so he's not upset that he's getting ready to go to prison.

Better yet, they shoulda brought out Mr. Rogers, Dr. Phil, and Montel Williams to talk him down and discuss his issues and how hurt he is that he can't go blasting away at more people.

I know there are bad officers and good officers. Just like there are good and bad people. But, you've got a person that's already cold-bloodedly killed two officers and obviously has no problem with taking out more if need be and you want to condemn the people that wanted to stop him?

The man was killed. He wasn't murdered. The two officers and even the friggin' dog were murdered.

Cops have become thugs !! Here in atlanta they busted into a 92 yr old womans house on a bogus drug warrant. The old lady opened fire hitting 3 of the plain clothes officers that kicked her door in ( GOOD FOR HER ) . The other police shot her 31 times. Murdered her. Now they are finding out that another one of their cop buddies planted some pot in there to try & cover up their mistake. They should hang those cops, but, nothing will be done. Cops no longer serve & protect, instead they Harrass & Abuse.

One human officer dead, another wounded, and a service dog (considered an officer) is dead. So the guy who shot the three of them IN COLD BLOOD was shot 81 times. Black, white, yellow or rainbow colored, i don't think it was murder. He refused to follow the instructions of the officers, and more than one officer has had to be in a situation where they see something shiny in a suspect's hand. They're TRAINED to make the assumption that the suspect might have a deadly weapon in their hand. It may not be a weapon, but say it was? While the officer was standing there, trying to decide to take the shot, the suspect could kill or seriously injure them. In cases like that, it's self-defense.

I heard a lot about the 92 year old woman in Atlanta who shot and killed three plain clothes officers after THEY broke in her door. They didn't identify themselves, didn't say they had a warrant. They just broke into her house. How was she to know they were police officers? Then this whole thing about them planting pot to make it seem justified? How messed up is that? SHE had every right to defend her home from what she believed to be robbers, and she was shot and killed IN HER OWN HOME!

To get back to the original post here a minute, no, I don't think it was murder. Not even police officers get away with it, guys. Ever heard of IAB (Internal Affairs Bureau)? Every time there's a shooting death or some other incident with officers, IAB gets involved.

Beat that with a stick, kids.
