I have a question for all the Southern folks on here both male and female. Would it turn you off to be dating someone and they invite you over to there house and you pull up in the driveway and notice a large Rebel flag on a pole blowing in the breeeze? I was just wondering because I am VERY Southern and very proud of it, and yes, I do have a Rebel flag in front of my house blowing magestically in the breeze. I am not really a redneck mind you, but I love my Southern heritage. If that is or isn't wrong, I would love to hear your thoughts on the subject. Would that turn you off or on??

Well, if you want to fly a flag of the Confederacy, fly the main flag of the CSA. Why fly the battle flag? Simply because it's recognizable? Historically in the Confederacy, the battle flag wasn't actually that important. The main flag would be more pertinent in regards to Southern Pride.
As to being a turn-on or -off, I could care less either way. Granted, if Klan symbolism was thrown in or something hateful, I would be turned off. I suppose my ultimate answer would be context of how and why the flag was flown.

Yes, it would give me pause. I'm originally a midwesterner - been here 17 years - and I usually assume the Rebel flag means that big chip on the shoulder, and a bad attitude about anyone who's not "southern."
I've lived all over, but never encountered such hostility as some southerners project regarding their "heritage."

Turn off...but i'm not a flag waver...John Prine said it best back in about '71
Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore © John Prine
While digesting Reader's Digest In the back of a dirty book store, A plastic flag, with gum on the back, Fell out on the floor. Well, I picked it up and I ran outside Slapped it on my window shield, And if I could see old Betsy Ross I'd tell her how good I feel.
Chorus: But your flag decal won't get you Into Heaven any more. They're already overcrowded From your dirty little war. Now Jesus don't like killin' No matter what the reason's for, And your flag decal won't get you Into Heaven any more.
Well, I went to the bank this morning And the cashier he said to me, "If you join the Christmas club We'll give you ten of them flags for free." Well, I didn't mess around a bit I took him up on what he said. And I stuck them stickers all over my car And one on my wife's forehead.
Repeat Chorus:
Well, I got my window shield so filled With flags I couldn't see. So, I ran the car upside a curb And right into a tree. By the time they got a doctor down I was already dead. And I'll never understand why the man Standing in the Pearly Gates said...
"But your flag decal won't get you Into Heaven any more. We're already overcrowded From your dirty little war. Now Jesus don't like killin' No matter what the reason's for, And your flag decal won't get you Into Heaven any more."

NO! I am proud on my southern heritage. And I think we need reminders of the past so that we don't forget in the future.

Confederate Flag or the battle jack which every one keeps mistaking for the Confed Flag?
Most people wouldn't know the diff between the Stars and Bars or the Old Stars and stripes...
I'd be put off a bit by the Battle jack because so many filthy assed rednex have given it such a bad name...
It's a damned shame that idiots have ruined things for good folks...

I've lived all over, but never encountered such hostility as some southerners project regarding their "heritage." Gee, that's really a surprise to me. One doesn't hear that too often. I have always, at least until very recently, found the South to be the most hospitable and accomodating place in the country.. Folks would give you the shirt off their backs if you needed it. And I've lived in a lot of places. Unless perhaps you get out into the boonies. That can have to do with other umm.. influences, like moonshine, clans, various agricultures and a few other such things. However I think the South is less hospitable nowadays, largely because there are very mixed cultures here now, including many from places like the NorthEast and the West. Lots of people moving down from everywhere, primarily for the favorable weather. (prior to this summer that is)
As for the Confederate flag, (the cross-bars and stars, as in Alabama the awesome musical group), I think it's a real shame it got a bad rap in recent years. It really isn't the symbol for extremists, or isn't indicative of things like racism. Some extremist groups simply took it and used it as their own banner, which did it an injustice in my view. It is indeed the mark of Southern pride and Southern heritage, (Think Gone With the Wind etc), a lot like the Stars and Stripes are the mark of American pride and heritage, and it used to fly above all our government buildings in the South along with the Stars and Stripes. There is and was a lot of pride in that.
I have one myself, but these days it usually stays down simply because of the unfortunate image it has taken on in the last decade or two. No reason to stir up hostility by way of passing misinterpretations. And it can certainly do that because of the misunderstood image it has taken on. But it wasn't always that way. And that's not at all what it's supposed to be about.
By the way, I'm a former Atlantian, which is why I slipped over here to see how things are going in one of my favorite home-states.
Howdy folks!

Sorry Honey but My freinds and I would all have to turn around and rethink the situation. Not that it is a turn off, but may people have different views of the flag in Georgia. Most of those people I would not consider being around.

no it is so not wrong as long as your reasons are for what they are and not just for hurting or making others feel uncomfortable.
i personally think they are beautiful as well as historical.

I was born and raised here in Georgia. It is not a turn on or a turn off. I believe that the flag is a part of the Ga heritage. Why would people get mad of that flag when we have mexican flags flying everywhere now. I am not saying that is wrong either but leave the Ga flag alone unless you want to remove all flags! This is america and we should be able to fly whatever flag we choose. For those of you that would not date someone because of a flag well you never know someones heritage because not all of us have the flags hanging but we do belive in our pride and given right.

I wouldnt say it would turn me on, but it wouldnt turn me off. My High School mascot was the confederate Rebel so every Friday night in the fall everyone from all races and backgrounds were waving rebel flags in the football stands and they still do. Our fight song is "Dixie". So I say fly your flag and fly it proud. It is a part of history and people need to get used to that

My heritage is not offensive to me. I am not going to cater to everyone who thinks that it is offensive. Get over it
