being a single woman in this day and age is difficult. i live in a military town where there are pleanty of men civilian and military. most men today want no strings attatched on going flings. i have had a few...but i want more. i want a man that can be my friend and lover. i want a man that can read and respect me and my son. being a single mother makes it difficult to get out and meet people since i do not have family that watch him for me to go out. the men i do meet aren't wanting a relationship and are scared if they do since they would be a father figure. why is this so difficult?

I've seemed to be running into the same problems myself. Either that or they say anything and everything to promise you the world, then they start talking about sex. I'm sick of it myself. And if they live in another state, they want YOU to uproot your family and move to where they are. Don't get me wrong, if you're that serious about someone, it's okay to consider it. But when he doesn't want to suggest "Well why don't we find a place somewhere in the middle or I can come and visit where you are and if I like it there, that's where I'll stay". Guys need to be honest, real, loving, caring, and accept whatever "baggage" the woman brings a long with her. If not, then they need to just move on in my opinion.

The internet with all its greatness has somehow made the world a smaller place,....we can chat with people from all around the planet....and it makes it so much fun and interesting, at the same time, I think some that are looking also feel like there might be "greener grass" just around the next whisper or email or im, .....dont ya think.

I do have to agree with you on that one. Yes, there are those very few who do find the right one on here, but other than that there are those who just want nothing but a quick fling, friend with benefits, or what you call posers and fakers. Same thing that happens in the real world, just a lot easier on here because its not face to face. It's gotten sickening. Women are just as bad though. Guess its because they've gotten so accustomed to be hurt all the time that they do what they're used to have done to them.

Again life is what you make of it. I met my wife here after 30 plus years of looking. I have no complaints. There are good people and bad people everywhere. You just have to set your standards and don't budge, then sort through any one that comes along or anyone that you approach. In my case just when I was ready to throw in the towel forever she came out of nowhere.

Yes, Seal..you are right about that. Life is what you make of it. The best thing to do is stand your ground. If you don't want a "friends with benefits" type thing, then tell them and move on to someone who is wanting a serious relationship. Some men are maybe just miserable with their marriage or scared of commitment so they want something to make them happy but without all the emotional stuff that comes with it. Just make it clear that you're not into that and if they don't like it, oh well, their loss not yours

In my life, most of my guy friends, family, acquaintances DO NOT prefer a fling.
We all prefer long-term.
