I got bad news for you, dude. Illinois is like herpes: Once you have been exposed to it, it goes with you wherever you go. IOW, you are cursed for life.

I’ve presently fled Illinois like someone threatened with unanesthetized hemorrhoid surgery two weeks ago…
... and I’ve gotta say… I am hysterically delighted to be back in California!!! I had agonizing difficultly in finding the more than simple in my surroundings!
No true offense intended to the natives… I’m just California born and bred, too many artists and free thinkers!

Rare Questor, may I please quote you?
"The curse of Illinois in action".
Good Luck to you, former, fellow Illinoisans! I’ve read the previous threads about the difficulty in finding someone, especially out in rural Illinois! I tend to agree, but It’ll happen!

Of course.
Incidentally, it is not a phenomenon which is strictly limited to Illinois. Lawmakers in Iowa are becoming very concerned about the "brain drain" that is occurring in their state as young graduates move to other states in search of better jobs and a better culture. (There was an article in a local newspaper about the incentives that the legislature is considering to entice people to remain here. I just wish I had thought to save it so that I could quote from it. ) This has been occurring in Illinois since at least 1980. I remember only too well that when I attended Northern Illinois University in 1988, the students were far more interested in partying than in intellectual improvement or debate or social activism. That was just one reason why I moved to Texas after that. Unfortunately, my folks had health problems a few years ago and needed my help so I had to move back. I still plan to move again eventually, although I am not sure where. I was thinking of Arizona or Oregon.

The fact is, that the money is definately up here. Not down south or out west unless your close to a major city
This just brings us back to the point that Chicago is, after all, only one small part of the entire state of Illinois. I don't doubt that wages may be higher in that city and the surrounding counties, but it is a different matter in the rest of the state. I'm not saying that the poverty is as bad as anything in the third world, but it is a growing problem especially in rural areas.
We'll things could be far worse
I have never been impressed by this philosophy because the obvious corollary is that things could be much better. My complaint about Illinois is that so few of its citizens seem to have any interest in making it better.
Incidentally, I once worked at a local restaurant with white, black and Hispanic employees, including a few who had been born in Mexico and Central America. Guess who worked the hardest and put the most effort into the job. Sometimes I think we Americans take our citizenship for granted too often.

The illegals are taking our jobs???.....LOL.....that is hilarious man!! Mexican folks will work in 98 degree weather for 5 bucks an hour, how many of you will do that? Let me count on one hand.....oh........sorry.....not even one!!! On my last job, we would have been better off hiring Mexicans....(of course, they wouldn't), all those spoiled little American boys would sit and bitch about having to work more than 8 hours a day or not being able to have the holidays off.....give me a break! I am American born and bred, however, I was raised up with hispanic folks, and I just don't see what your problem is? Recently, when I had to go through radiation for a brain tumor, my Mother-in-Law and her closest friends in Mexico got together and started a Prayer chain for me, always keeping in touch, always worried and hoping for me. I am now stabilized. I thank God for those wonderful people!
I think in some way, we are all immigrants, maybe you should do a family history and quit putting races down that you know nothing about except what is repeated by ignorance on a regular basis?
By the way, it was also the hispanic community who jumped in to help me when my prejudiced boss fired me for being a brain tumor patient in the first place.

Well gentlemen I agree that IL sucks for meeting a smart interesting, educated woman that is employed and takes care of herself. Lots of under 21 single females, but most of them are single mommys. Sometimes it depends on the field of work you are in. A few of my buds, all professionals, are waiting tables part time, simply because there is an abundance of young good looking girls that work those jobs. The dudes are older but it appears lately that the issue of age differences doesn't really apply. It's common to see alot of guys in their 40's-50's dating girls in their 20's. So before you go thru a painstaking move to another lonely state, swallow your pride a lil bit and work a job below your standards. That's where they are at in IL. Rock on

Julie, I note from your profile that you live in Crystal Lake or barely 40 minutes from Chicago. You just proved our contention that it is difficult to meet people in Illinois unless you happen to live in or near Chicago.

I've been to Crystal Lake and to Chicago. It's only a 40-45 minute drive from Crystal Lake to Chicago (depending on how you drive. ) Chicago is the cancer of Illinois: malignant and pervasive. It's only a matter of time before it swallows up Crystal Lake and even De Kalb.

I lived in Texas for a number of years, still have all of my family there, can't wait to visit......Houston's traffic is about the same as Chicago's, but no toll roads in Houston, so that stinks here, have change ready or buy an I-Pass. It's hot in Texas during the summer, but it's get's hot here also, humidity makes it hotter than it is. Most people that were born and raised in Texas, say ya'll, not if you guy's think, sorry had to bring that up......but NO matter where you live, city or state, it's what YOU make of it, NOT the state fault or the city fault if you don't like it. Just deal with it and try to make the most of it, if not, well then.......
