I had heard about this happening to people before I'd ever posted a peronsal, but it seems more widespread than I'd have thought! I get at least a few emails a week from people who've written in terrible english with what looks to be whatever language they speak, translated by a site like Babelfish or something.

Usually I find their profile on a few other sites with different information (like one says NYC, NY, and the other says Louisville, KY). I guess the biggest clue might be if they want money to buy them a ticket to fly them to where you're at.

Personally I delete them and move on. It's sad, I'm sure that there are people out there that are from another country just trying to find that special person, but with all the scams that tug at our heart strings to get us to losen the purse strings, I'll stick with the people I feel are more real.

Good luck to us all I suppose :)

Don't send them any money, don't tell them you want to meet them, don't give them any personal info at all.
Just write them enough nonsense so they keep sending you new pictures to :wackit: to that may or may not be them, until you are sure you won't get nudes, then block them & stop replying.

Crazyleggs,

In My Opinion and experiences........They never do match what ya say to em, they never seem to answer any questions ya ask em, and they never seem to comment on what ya tell em either.

For some it might just be due to the translation from English to Russian. For most though, I think, it's more that they don't really care and in the end it's all about scamming money.

Here's a site I found that's about Russian Dating Scammers.....
Agency Scams

There is a site that might help... I haven't had problems with Russians asking for money, but was scammed out of 5gs one summer a while back... Then I learned about WWW.STOPSCAMMERS.COM... They have names, IPaddresses, pics, about everything you would need to identify who or what is mailing you... One "Lady" (yes I used "", you never know if it is a guy or a lady on here) had a bank account with over 10MIL U.S. when they caught her... So it is not the money they want it is just to see if they can get it...

Hey thanks Ironcowboy, I will check out that site... Basically I am having fun with them. The african wants to mail me money orders, I would like to come up with an address for her to send them to, just not mine. A nigerian woman keeps talking western union with me. I put on like I was one of my kids and she still asked who she thought was my son about Western Union and his reply was something like, Is that from an old John Wayne movie.... LOL .
The russian girl still hasn't tried and I am waiting

Yes! I get those on here. When the woman is named
"Natasha" thats a pretty good clue. LOL. They also read like a
fourm letter as in they start by just saying "hello" and
never calling you by your first name, and also like you said
writing in broken english too.
I figure they want some money, or a Visa to get to
America.
Personally I think it's insulting that they have to prey on
some men like we are such dumb saps or such lonely
schmos that we are actually going to fall for this scam!

unfortunatly 1 in 1000 may actually be looking for something other than money and their isn't any way to identify that one. If by some chance you find yourself falling for one of these "ladies" you may find yourself in the following situation.

She has turned the conversation towards talk of meeting you but she dosen't have the money for the trip. You offer to pay for the tickets but she insist that you send the money to her so she can buy the ticket...possible claiming that she can get a discount. At this point STOP ALL CONTACT! This is a scam that has been played in countless variations on thousands of people. DON'T FALL FOR IT!

Well, it doesn't matter who they are or where they are from. If they want more than conversation, AVOID THEM.
An Asian girl contacted me. I asked for more pictures and never heard from her again. It was probably some guy with his sisters picture, or one he got from a magazine. Why would anyone really want to come to America to be with someone they don't even know anyway? Would you do something that stupid?

Well the Russian girl evidently gave up or she has been reading this tread....LOL
Had a few hits from Nigeria and Africa through the week and they are all about money, which they tried and tried with no luck. One even said she went over there to buy fabric for her business in the states and didn't buy a return ticket.. The town she was supposidly from is about 30 miles from New York State and she had never heard of New York... I guess they think we are pretty stupid

Call me kooky, but I think the first clue that it's a scammer is when their letter begins with some crap about how they liked your profile, you sound really nice etc. yet they've NEVER VIEWED YOUR PROFILE!!

I am NOT sticking up for these people, I get sick of getting their emails too. I would like to point out that I look at lots of peoples profiles but I am smart enough to have my setting so no one can tell I have looked/lurked.

I can't tell if someone has looked at me on this site anyway.. I guess I have to pay to see who is viewing me. I guess if anyone is really interested they would contact me.
BTW the little Russian girl 27 years old, Has sent four photos now and she has the body of a 14 year old, Not much there. The pics look very professional. I am just having fun with her and she hasn't asked for $$$$$$$$$. She won't get any from here anyway.

If you click on their profile and there's a pair of binoculars highlighted, they've at least looked at your profile (hmmm, not sure if that works if their "tracking" is turned off, though) Gold does let you see picures and profiles of the last 60 people who've clicked on you profile...

And Yana, why would you be so upset about RUSSIANS and the well known/well documented organized Russian scams? You're supposed to be Ukrainian -- and already living in England.

What's wrong with that?I love England,I learned English to use it with the native speakers, not just for pleasure(well for this as well) but it upsets me when a lot of men, mostly americans(haven't got anything against them) say that Russian girls just look for money or they are golddiggers. It depends on the personality first of all. There are loads of golddigers among american women as well.Or can you prove me wrong?? X
