First of all thank you soooo much to everyone for their participation in this year's camping trip!
So many people stepped up and helped make this such an awesome event. If there was something that needed to be done, people pitched in, and we all worked as a TEAM. Shoot, the men even COOKED (and I'm telling ya, we ate quite well!)
We talked this morning of ways to organize the next event so that one or two people aren't doing everything. Poor Luvvy has been working her butt off for months, and next year she will be planning a wedding, so we want to spread the work among all of us in order that everyone can have a great time. We will be organizing committees, so if there is an area you would like to be involved in, please step up and let us know!
This thread is to discuss what worked, what we can improve upon and gather tips and tricks for next year. Please use the other threads for the funny stories of this year so this thread can stay informative.
If you didn't get to attend this year, but are planning on coming next year, please know you are welcome to post in this thread.
Thanks everyone. Now...plan away!

Is it in Indiana again? Or maybe a change of venue to Arizona would get more west coasters and others there?
I'll help plan the menu-

Like Spring and I discussed last night....start on Thursday. I think it would be easier on those who come so far.
I will help in anyway I can. Just ask. I'm good at planning menus, portions to buy, and grocery lists.
I'm also a great group cook and love to do it if someone else cleans up.

Now I wasn't able to make it this year, however, I do believe that having the mod show up shirtless would make it a trip to remember.
And I have a "tent for two" so he wouldn't have to worry about "accomodations".
And I'm sure I could find something to feed the man.
Just a thought, and making it clear that I have DIBS ON THE MOD!

If I can share you tent, you could get the mod to sleep on the top bunk. Of you. Okay?

No.
You cannot watch.
We have been over this and over this...
Just because we did it that one time in college does not mean we have to do it every year.
Get yourself a room at Motel 6 and find yourself a nice aging car salesman.

We discussed the idea of having different committees, so those of you that have already volunteered will be added to the appropriate list.
Next year's will be in the same place because of the wedding. Luvvy's family lives nearby and this campground was just perfect for a group like ours (lots of privacy as well as not having to worry about disturbing other people). There's a small snackbar with an area that would be perfect for a reception and we can dance under the lighted palm trees.
We definetly need to make it longer. Katydid made the comment this morning that going on into Monday wouldn't be bad either. Check-out time in the campground is 11:00, and I don't think we will want to break camp after a night of wedding festivities and partying. Once again...just a thought.
We also talked about little things like everyone bringing either a roll of TP, paper towels, or a box of plastic silverware. That would be something easy for people flying in to throw in their suitcase, and would'nt require one person having a van load of supplies.
Its little stuff like that that all of us can do, that is so easy, but will add so much to the overall experience.
Head count -- last year I think it was 6. This year it was 30 something.
I will help in anyway I can. Just ask. I'm good at planning menus, portions to buy, and grocery lists.
I'm also a great group cook and love to do it if someone else cleans up. Perfect Mom I think but I'm not positive that Graywolf is heading up that area. He will be posting once he gets home, so I'm sure he'll contact you.

I met so many wonderful people on this trip that it is going to bring me out of LURK mode!!! Kudos to Luvvy for all the hard work she did!! But, she did soooo much and so did a few others! Dividing up the work load is a good (no WONDERFUL) idea!
The food was fabulous...full course meals 3 times a day! We were too full to even have S'Mores!!! As soon as one meal was done - preparation was begun on the next and some didnt have much time to relax and enjoy. My suggestion would be to keep it simple next year! Of course the Wedding Day would be a different story but the other days could be hot dogs or "hobo" anything! Lunch would be "fix your own". Its camping and it should be a mini vacation for all!! Just my thoughts.
Next year is going to the party to end all parties!!!

OK! Can I move to that one? I'll talk to Luvvy, but I have a friend that makes better cakes than store-bought!

Oh Loreli...that's so nice, and you KNOW that's gonna make luvvy cry! That poor lady, she cried so much this weekend, which made the rest of us cry, but it was all good.

just to add a little to what annie has already said, i was with geywofl, and the rest of the late levers. the camp groundthere will accommodate about 100 people, but shower and bathroom facilities are limited, so beware, there could well be a bottleneck at times. there. the folk that own the place were very happy with us, and will welcome us back next year, to the extent we can check and get a reservation some time after the first of next year. normally they wait till aprii 1st to start taking reservations. so that is a great thing. i don't know all the ideas and possibilities that are going to come out right now, but a couple more pavilion type tents, are going to be needed, for not only food prep, but also socializing areas, for card playing, or people to have discussions,of what ever kind, just a place to get out of the sun as much as anything else. more oganization of things like coolers and food, delegating things and taking the load off luvvy and duvvy.
my head is still spinning from all that happened this week end, and i do want to be part of next years camp out. but everyone one that does participate will probably be asked to do something small, at some point. this year, we had a few people that went so far over and beyond what anyone would be expected to do, it is hard to say thank you to them enough, so next year we want the ones that did work so hard to be able to enjoy more of the time we are together.
but we all need to start making tentative plans now for next years camp out. and for those that are seriously thinking of attending, checking to see what we can do or bring to make it as big a success or even bigger and better than this year.
