As a nature enthusiast, I take weekly journeys to any park or forest nearby where I can take in the flora & fauna. Recently, I have been coming to enjoy revisiting Holliday Park here in Indy, and Paul Ruster Park is a hidden treasure that I often frequent.
Though I haven't been in years, Hoosier National Forest is another rich area for a serene recharge in nature. And in Illinois, Shawnee National Forest calls out for another visit.
Anyone have any favorite sites they'd like to share? I'm always looking for new spots! Currently, I'm trying to find out more about a park in Northern Indiana that is supposedly haunted by an Indian massacre of Jackson's doing. Anyone know the one?

Mounds Park in Anderson is a nice place to hike - lots of Indian history there.
My favorite place to hike is Hueston Woods in Ohio!
My dad lives in southern Indiana and there are 100's of great places to hike/explore around there. My favorite thing to do at his house is sit out on his balcony just before sunrise - you can hear the bobcat - pretty cool

Hey Simon My son and I spend time every week either on trails or in our kayaks here in Indiana. People who stay on the highways are really missing the true beauty of our state! Three of my favortie places to hike & take pics in Indiana are:
Pine Hills Nature Preserve..."This is a passage over two backbone ridges above a deep gorge in the state's first dedicated nature preserve. Don’t be fooled by the easy pace with which this trail begins. The deep gorge that the entry trail leads to may be the most spectacular piece of natural landscape in Indiana." http://www.state.in.us/dnr/3511.htm
Turkey Run State Park, Trail #3 ... vertical ladders, don't take your dog if it can't be carried (or can't climb ladders! ). http://www.turkeyrunstatepark.com
Shades State Park, Trail #2 ... http://www.stateparks.com/shades.html
All of these trails are very rugged, not suitable for small children or those with bad knees! These trails are especially beautiful in the winter, see some pics here...
