I've been wondering what people think about musicians or people in the field. I work in the field of Theater part time as a sound, recording and engineering tech but I also work full time in another field. It seems that some people get the wrong impression of people that work in music or the arts. Most people I meet seem to think that people in the music or arts fields are just chasing some crazy dream, are angry failed rock throwing musicians or are bar and club type musicians that just chase women and drink or party out of control. I think that some people are afraid or leary of being involved with people who work in the arts because of the stereotypical reputation some of us have. Anyways, just wondering what others think about this.

I've been wondering what people think about musicians or people in the field. You know, I never gave that a thought. I couldn't care less if the person is musically inclined or not.

it depends on the individual...some can handle the "fame", some do let it go to their head. i have known quite a few musicians-it's about 50-50 on how they handle themselves...IMHO

I probably would date a musician but I would warn him that I am not responsible for what happens when I sing along (bad singing voice) so it would be better to try my singing voice on him first before we dated.

Sure. Why? Do you happen to know a sexy lady that plays the flute or a piccolo?

In Nashville, everyone is (i) a songwriter, (ii) an aspiring songwriter, (iii) a musician, (iv) an aspiring musician, (v) singer, (vi) wannabe singer, (vii) knows somebody who knows somebody who does yardwork for [Garth][Keith & Nicole][Tim & Faith][fill in the blank] and who, for a fee, is willing to pass on your demo tape.
Me, I just hang out in the Publix in Franklin, hoping to run into Trace Adkins again.

I don't think I could.
My father has been in a since before I was born....and has cheated on my mother as a result of that lifestyle. I detest the rock and roll, or "band" lifestyle and could not be involved with a man that wanted to make that his life's work.

i thank you for the foundation! of course i would not "date" someone who says music is my life. it is an "ART", tell me one artist that tosses a chunk of meat on the table and scratches his butt and boldly walks away. duh, is this a blond discussion? oh my God!! are you a republican!!!?

I think that would depend on the person.
I dated a singer in a band when I was in my teens. It was a well known band around here and he had plenty of opportunities to cheat on me, but he never did. The sweetest thing he ever did for me was to write a song about me and record it.
I saw him at a concert a few years ago and he is still the sweet person he was back then. He told me that he had the pleasure years ago to be a sub for the Marshall Tucker Band.
For some people, they think they are it. Others... They feel they are no better than anyone else!

Some good replys so far. But I'd just like to make one thing clear. Myself..I am not in a bar band, nor do I lead the life of certain types of muscians or artists in the field that so many people like to sterotype as being party animals, cheaters, aand constantly living the " Band " lifestyle. I was in a very good band for quite some time, but that was not what I really wanted as far as being in the field. My work in the field is in Theater, as in Broadway Productions and Theater events. Its a lot different than being in a band and having to deal with all of the typical garbage that sometimes goes along with it. But thanks for your input people.

I agree with you LGQ. I dated a bass player in a band. He was so arrogant and stuck on himself, I had to go.
He may have cheated-- I don't know/don't care. But he did enjoy all the ladies attentions. Not all are that way.
I don't think I would ever date another musician. Just not what I want or need.

Ahhhh...now I understand why its hard to find someone who is interested in me. LOL! Seems like a lot of people can't stand people that are involved in music or the Arts.
Sorry about going off topic for this, but jamminjerry..why does everything you have to add to any topic in the forums make no sense? Gezzz... Ha!

I was in the theatre field, too...I've also dated someone in the musical field for several years. They get a bad rap, but the travel, the trips to other countries, the hours spent in rehearsal and recording...it can take a toll on any relationship. But, then again, I don't think it's any different from dating someone from another career field...it's all about 2 people and their relationship.

I have a weakness for musicians and for individuals in the performing arts. I am a very creative and imaginative person so I find we tend to march to the same drummer.
