What attracts you the most to a persons profile ?

After reading all the threads on fake pictures being used what is there about any particular profile with or without a pic that may or may not attract you ? Do you feel the picture posted is initially what evokes the most interest or is it actually reading the profile itself ? Putting aside you're gender preference and age requirements, as that's a given.

A picture is very important....but I am more impressed by the essay's.
If someone takes the time to fill out the essay's, they seem a bit more sinscere in their efforts.
If I see essay's like mine.....  .....It shows me that they are just here to grab what they can , use it and look again. Or are just here to stir up trouble, because why would you spend 15 or 20 minutes on a fake essay for a bit of trouble.
Or perhaps they are hiding something?
Yes, I know....all could be said for me....

I read the essays because they can be pretty telling. I've seen some people who seem to use their essays to write a laundry list of things they don't like. It makes it pretty easy to move along when I see that.

I have to agree Julia, the effort someone puts into writing his profile strikes the first chord with me. But not all people have the ability to write fluently, which would suggest we're side stepping some good people..yes?

I love reading the essays.. even if they don't fit my criteria, if there is something in their profile I like or find interesting, I write and tell them what I liked about their essay..

Sponge, is it really wrong to state up front the things that annoy you or is it better to withhold that info and let someone get surprised down the road? Maybe the way people word what annoys them is the real problem?

I 'downsized' my profile when I discovered the blogs and forums and if truth be told when I noticed a particular man who I ''tried'' to put in cold storage for 'later'....btw....that didn't work too well 
If someone 'really' wants to know more about me they can read my blogs or go on a treasure hunt for my comments in the forums or ''other people's blogs".
Frankly I'm not interested in anyone who doesn't post comments...or better yet blog. How can I be interested in someone I don't know.
Personally I find that I would rather 'initially' get to know someone in the ''comprehensive'' context that I can experience by reading their blogs.....or watching how they ''play with others''   in the forums.
This might change some day....but that's where I'm at right now.

Well, I don't really date much from here, the forums are fun, but I don't seriously think I'll find someone on here. On the sites where I'm more likely to find men local to me though, it seems to be sort of a spirit of adventure that attracts me most, even without a picture being posted. Since they're local, unless work becomes even more intrusive than usual (like lately!!!!!!), we'll usually talk on the phone pretty much immediately and if that goes well, meet within a week or so. If scheduling works out, I've been known to go out with a guy the same day that we first exchanged messages...it leads to a lot of the one date wonder syndrome, but at least neither of us have wasted a lot of time chatting....and while only two have lasted any length of time, I've also developed some interesting friendships.

a few of the people on here have known me for quiet a while because we are on another forum together.. they know my heartbreaks.. my triumphs.. my soul.. they have been there for me in my darkest times.. I have written some nights until my fingers were numb.. maybe one day I will start a blog on here.. but now is not the right time for me..

Pictures are ok, but it's the writing that intrigues me. As much as good grammer and punctuation are important, overall, humor and a positive attitude are a requirement.

LSU79....from my ahhhhem 'extensive experience'' aka a short dating experience about two months ago... .
I've found that you 'can' have chemistry  for someone you aren't compatible ''enuf'' with  soooooo.........
My preference is to explore the compatibility of the heart and mind....from a safe distance...... afore I expose myself to the ''temptations' of the ''flesh''

I'm not so sure that even the best of profiles can give a glimpse of the people that write them. I do feel the forums and blogging gives "some" insight into a persons persona, sense of humor, intellect, sensitivity to others, or is that just how we individually interpret everything?

My profile doesn't say anything (in the expected way), but I've had some wonderful emails from people who picked up on the fact that it says just about everything. 
I really do have more luck getting a handle on people through the forums and blogs...a picture is usually just a bonus when one's attracted to a personality.
