What does where one lives have to do with how a person acts?

mmm well I do think there can be geographical traits Tinky
like if you live in Greenland you may not be so warm and outgoing as a person who lives in the Caribean ... weather does have influences on behaviour
I cry and get grumpy when its dark and cold hard to believe ???? he he I know ... its called S>A>D seasonal adjustment disorder

who cares what they think ?
But location does influence a persons behaviour to some extent... the culture .. the terrain ... the habits ...
I lived in four different countries and was a little different in each ..........mmmm does that mean I am half daft ... maybe

Oh Tink, I wish I could trade places with you. I am a country girl and hate living in town.
I think people do act different because of where they live, or maybe just where they want to live. Me being a country girl, am happiest in the country, sitting on the porch watching and listening to nature. My daughter who is a city girl goes crazy when she comes here, nothing to do, nothing to see...yada yada... She wants to go to clubs, shop at the mall, see shows. Me, I am happy with the local Wally World, and sports store. Give me a camp fire, a hot dog and tent. I am all good. She wants a 5 star resturant and motel.

Here the women are considered third class. They're not allowed to show excess skin. Most of them use veils to hide their faces.

Agree with Luv. I think if you take people out of where they are happy and comfortable they get a bit irate and unsettled. Sometimes people can be happier someplace else, but that might depend on if that person were to find something that would make them very happy at the alternate location.
I think it also has to do with expectations. Some people leave the country because they believe the only place they could be happy would be the city, others leave the city thinking the only place they could be happy at would be the country...
Can't blame you for liking the country Luv. I'm a suburia raised boy, so I tend to like the peace and quiet at night at times, but work in the city so like the hustle and bustle at times. I think too much of either one though makes me a bit crazy.
Cities can definitely promote a different attitude as well, and it also depends on which side of the country. NYC is a rough and tumble rude place (or so I hear), Chicago can be rude, but not as cut throat as NYC (from what I've seen), and places like San Diego and San Jose are a bit easier going (though LA is probably just as rough and tumble as any other major city).

Cities can definitely promote a different attitude as well, and it also depends on which side of the country. I grew up in NYC, and generally refer to it as my basic training...how to kick in the shin, stomp on the instep and throw a hard punch to the Adam's apple...and that was before I was 12, some 50 years ago. My girl friends and I rode the subway to school, and the flashers ran away because we'd stand there laughing and critiquing them.
Very different here in Phoenix - you don't feel as though you're playing chicken when you get on to a freeway or change lanes. People here complain about traffic if it slows down to 45...back in NYC it could take an hour or two to cross the Whitestone Bridge. I think I'm a lot more relaxed than I used to be, when I had 60-90 minute drives to and from work each day (on a good day) in that kind of trraffic.
The Indian (East) woman who sits next to me here doesn't drive (!) because that's her husband's job, and culturally she's grown up to believe it's unfeminine to drive. Change is possible though...she's gotten her learner's permit.
