Has anyone here ever created an imaginary lover, or do you know of someone who has?
If so, what were the reasons for doing so?
Was it to make someone jealous? Was it to get someone to leave you alone? Was it due to a need to feel wanted?
Just how far did this virtual affair go? Was the fantasy affair discovered and exposed?

I had friends that kept fake (HUGE) diamond rings in their purse when we were younger and going out. If they were approached by someone they wanted to back off-they just slipped that big ole ring on their finger...
(and today not one of them has a real one that big, it sure was wishful thinkin!)

Was it to make someone jealous? Seems pretty childish and insecure.
Was it to get someone to leave you alone? If they can't understand "I'm not interested", they eventually understand having a conversation with themselves or unanswered phone calls/e-mails.
Was it due to a need to feel wanted? Sounds like some major insecurities to go to that length.
I've known of a couple instances where someone has told another they have a boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse, but those times were usually when the approacher had drunk themselves stupid and could barely remember their own name, let alone comprehending their attention wasn't wanted.
I feel that as long as Cinderella and the Prince are in the back of one's mind, a relationship is being set up for failure. Webster defines fairy tale as a story about fairies (which are imaginary beings) or as an unbelieveable or untrue story. I also feel fairy tales can be contributory to making one have a need to feel wanted.

Yep...his name is Bob. I've always received good vibes whenever I've been around him.

Hell, yes. And I refuse to give up my imaginary affair with Trace Adkins. Trust me -- it's HOT.

I have an imaginary lover every night
But have never used "him" in public...
Not sure I would need to make anyone jealous....more than plenty of real men to choose from.
If someone is a little persistant bordering on stalkish....I usually sick my dog on them....he knows where to bite.

Oh Eyes, say it isn't so... Sorry, Luv....I'm a realist. I fortunately learned my lesson about fairy tale relationships the hard way and a while back! Life is sooooo much better now that I've accepted the real world has even more to offer!!!!

I think it is all a matter of attitude and being able to see ourselves as others see us!
Sometimes, our imagination or fantasies can conjure up impossibilities; then, when an opportunity arises, it doesn't live up to what we anticipated and we feel cheated. I've found having no expectations and taking things as they come has made me appreciate Life and all its offerings (some of which are not so delectable but quite educational!!!!)

Tony, I think that's something totally different than the reasons in the OP.
And, btw...I see nothing wrong with and think it's perfectly healthy to have an imaginary lover under that circumstance!!!
