What do women think of winks?

I'm just curious what women think of the winks on matchdoctor? I've used them a few times and quite honestly, I rarily get a response from them. I get a much bigger response writing a quick note saying i'm interested. Why is that? What's the difference?

I find it very difficult to respond to a wink and rarely do. It could mean a multitude of things and I interpret it the same as I would if a man smiles at me on the street or at a store. It's a nice gesture, but doesn't really mean anything.
If a man takes the time and makes the effort to write, I will almost always respond. A few times I've gotten some very strange mail, and those are the only ones I'll ignore.

Thanks for your comment CynCity. It makes sense. But I would think a wink would mean i'm interested to a woman, because that is exactly what it meant to me. But hey, that's why I asked.

I see your point, Scrip. And I always take a wink as a compliment, but nothing more.
But, if a man is really interested, then please write! Even one or two sentences/questions shows a real interest and (maybe I'm old fashioned here) a little effort...which I really appreciate. If I'm interested in a man, and I'm approaching him, I think he would deserve a little more than just one hit of a "wink" button.

When they send me a wink, I check their profile and IF the profile is a decent one and he's decent looking I send a wink back and usually a few minutes later I get mail from that person.

Firstly unless you pay to use this site, how else are you going to get someones attention? Let's remember flirting in the forums is pointless.
Besides how many thought provoking emails have we all written to be deleted without being read?
it's initial contact - if you like the one who sent it simple send one back. That way they still have to make the effort by email but don't have to pay for being knocked back again. We're not all rich you know.
Not being female but I'd still like to say it's a good idea.

...which is the whole point of a wink, methinks. They're used to send out a feeler to another person to find out if the person they're winking at might be interested in communicating further.

i like when i get the wink n a response. like cyn says, its like a smile from someone i c on the street. if someone is interested, let them say so -- even briefly. if i want 2 talk 2 someone, i'd drop a short short just 2 say i like the profile or whatever.

Winks are fun. I like them 'cause I still find it somewhat difficult to contact a man or "make the first move", this helps me to do it by keeping it light. I don't always respond to winks because I don't wat to imply interest if there isn't any, but will almost always reply to e-mail even if its just to say thanks, but no thanks.

Well, from the way it sounds, maybe many women get a ton of winks and usually just answer the emails they get? That would make sense I guess.

I never respond to winks. Just send an email. Anything from "Hello, nice profile" or "I think we could have something in common." I find winks boring.

this guy sent me a wink he was from far away new york or something and so i sent him a note and asked him what HE READ IN my profiel that caught his attention and he wrote back" I didnt read your profile, I thought u were cute so i sent youa wink" well all i can say is If you send a wink and are interested please read my profiel and send me a note.. Haha, I can tell who read my profile or not, because they ask if I'm single. Duh, my profile says I'm not, and I want to chat on here, nothing else.  And I also get those mass mailing. You can tell what those are, because it sounds like a copy and paste.

Why is it so difficult to respond to a wink? Yer not gonna write to everyone yer attracted to...are you?...lol...WHy cant you wink back to let the guy know yer attracted too? Then he might be more inclined to write something...sheesh...i guess its just me...lol...who wants to get something they write ignored and rejected on here too?...lol...am i that wrong?...
