and how did it turn out for you? Was it worth the money (maybe that's a dumb question, since you're now on this site?)

I know that eharmony advertises on TV and supposedly, Dr. Phil is one of the contributors--to find the "love of your life" because they have better ways of matching you up. Then there's "Great Expectations" where they can charge you thousands of dollars. I was just curious as to what type of experiences others have had? And, I also would not pay....I'm just cheap plus got scared off by bill collectors at any early age.

hehehe, I just did a keyword search for "dating sites" and found a dozen or more discussions (a lot of them are old and the people are no longer here -- which still doesn't prove if this site is better or the paid ones are ~grin~) Yikes, a lot of mixed reactions...but I recall most people being disappointed (or disgusted) with eHarmony and a few others.
Pay? No WAY!
hahaha, I won't even admit that I might be availiable for a date, muchless a mate -- even on a FREE site

e harmnoy is a rip off. Very expensive and that test is a joke. The problem with free sites is that a lot of people just join to mess around. Match is the best pay site. I actually met a fat woman from that site. It is not all that expensive either.

You met a fat woman? Is that what you were looking for or is that what you wound up with--just curious?

Yahoo Singles sucked. True sucked. A few others sucked.
Seems like a trend.
MD beats them all from what I've seen.

After years of studying this topic my conclusion is that, if you can't meet someone here on MD, you can't meet them on any other site.
Of course, the more your profile gets around the more likely you are to have the luck to find someone. But it's a numbers game, not a qualitative thing. All the personality profiles, etc. are a bunch of BS. It's a matter of luck. And you are just as likely to have that luck on a free site as on a pay site.
And MD is the best of both
PS: Please write the Mod in the "Do You Have A Crush On Someone Here On MD?" thread (see the thread to write to them) and ask them to open the thread again. And if they do, please IGNORE anyone who says anything out of line. Talking about them just gets the thread closed. Instead of talking about them in the thread, write to the Mod to complain specifically about them. Don't let one or two bad apples ruin everyone else's fun. Thanks.

I haven't. Since I'm only recently separated, I'm sure the girls' dad would have been pretty mad if I was on a dating site

I did a trial on E-Harmony awhile back and while I seemed to get a lot of matches..... there were not alot in my area. And I think they are WAY TOO expensive.
I also did a free trial on Match.com (I think it was a week)....which I guess is not long enough... but the only emails I got were from guys who already knew me!
One of my problems though was that I rarely am the one to make the first move... which I guess is not a good thing on a dating site.
I love MD.... right now I'm just here for the fun, the blogs, the interaction with friends I've made. But I think this site has way more to offer than any of the others.... and it's FREE! And they are always improving it. What more could you ask for!

I've been on Yahoo and Match. $29.95 a month just to be able to email someone!! And same people, same profiles forever, which shows something is not working.
EHarmony is waaaay to expensive and the matches I got from them weren't even close to someone I would like. (never paid)
I'll stay here where in a few short months I have made many friends and had a LOT of fun!!

I did that bullshit test on eHarmony and they turned me down! There is no match for me in the database. I also signed up for Match.com and Cupid.com as a free member, but since they won't let you do anyting until you pay them, that was a waste of time.

I joined and paid for match.com and ended up with several dates with one guy for a few months and one date with another guy. I also joined senorfriendfinders and had a free week where I met a guy I dated for a few months. But the I really enjoy MD. I joined MD about 4 yrs ago, forgot I was here, then came back and met the best guy yet! Not to mention all the fun in the forums. Wish I'd just hung around here and not tried those other sites. Also went to a dating place in San Antonio and for only $3000.00 I would be introduced to 20 quality men!! Ha! If I had $3000 I'd buy a bunch of cats and dogs...they stick around longer. (no offense to my new guy--I think he's a keeper!)

At one time I was a paying member of Match.com, eHarmony, and Yahoo Personals. I got several dates from Match and Yahoo, they were ok but nothing special, and one eHarmony date (about 2 yrs ago). The last 2 times when I've gone back home to NC, I see on my phone memory log where the eHarmony guy has called several times. Ha ha, I was probably his only "match" too!

I am not a chubby chaser. The fat chick had no pic on her profile. Claimed to be a few extra pounds. Turns out the wasn't truthful about her interests either. She really loved watching hockey - I can't stand it. Her major hobby seemed to be sitting around and watching TV.

I was on Match for a while. I rather enjoyed it. Met several nice ladies there. Some are still friends. Worth the money? Overall, probably not. Dr. Phil is offered there too, but that's the last thing I'd pay extra for..
But they came up with something to compete with eHarmony, (a spin-off much like eHarmony but of course a different name), where instead of several candidates you only got one at a time. The one they pick for you, which was never very interesting. I concluded they were selecting your matches just like the old way, but instead of 15 or so, they only selected 1 at a time.
I did a free test thing on that briefly, long questionnaire and all, but didn't like the concept a bit, and canceled well before the trial period was over.

I'm what you might call an old veteran. I been on literally every dating site imaginable, mostly for a trial membership here and there (though haven't tried eDate or eHarmony, and probably never will). I still have profiles on Match, Yahoo Personals, and American Singles, although not as a paying member, which nowadays means you can't do squat so I've just hidden most of them.
As for success? I've generated four, months-long relationships from the various sites I've been on. The last one ended about a five months ago, and even then it only lasted about a month and a half.
The biggest problems I've found with Internet dating are…..
Huge Selection – which is both good and bad. Good because no where else you can have the diversity and sheer number of choices. Bad because no where else you can have the diversity and sheer number of choices….lol. This ocean tends to dilute interest because people always seem to be looking over their shoulder for something they feel is better. In a word, they're spoiled, especially good-looking women that generate unbelievable amounts of attention. How can they not be?
Distance – being able to tell whether a person is relationship material is only as good as how well you get to know them, and emails/phoning is a poor substitute for face-to-face interaction. If you can afford the time, money and travel to really get to know each other in the crucial early stages of dating, more power to you. Some people only need one meeting to find this out, but most of us need much more time.
The most important thing to remember is Internet dating is not a panacea or guarantor of success. It's just a tool to "help" you find your match, but the real work is done by the people using it. You have to put forth effort. Don't sit back and expect Mr or Ms Wonderful to drop out of the sky and land in your mailbox.
Regarding pay sites: If you think you can sign up for a week trial, or even a month subscription, and find you're soul mate, you're delusional. For most people, this takes time. I wouldn't sign up to a pay site for anything less than six months. It's actually cheaper to sign up for six months to a year compared to month by month, and I recommend the former as the better option.

Yahoo singles, I didnt like. Eharmony is way too expensive AND the matches never seemed to fit or where too far away, I never got past the free trial phase.
