It always kid of rubs me a little to read that in a profile. No offense to the ladies who use it, but it seems like a bit of self flattery.
I mean come one, it's just a wink, not someone asking to bear children together. I throw out a wink like I do in real life, when I think someone said something clever, of just to say I have a general good feeling about that person. That doesn't mean that I am sitting around pining for a response to the wink. I think I probably don't get that many responses to winks, I don't really keep track, because I don't expect a response. The moment I click the button, I move on to other things.
Don't get me wrong, its perfectly nice to respond to a wink if you feel so inclined, but no one should feel obligated. It's silly. It's just a click. I will sit and write an email if I hope to get an email in return, and even then, the other person is not obligated.
If I read "I don't respond to winks" it sound like (even though that may not be the intent) "Oooh, I am so hot and so many people are winking at me and constantly vying for my attention, they just cannot all expect some of my precious time"
It's just the click of a button, Toots. It isn't like they went out and bought you a big bouqet of flowers. Get over it already.

Actually, I can understand why a lot of people do not respond to winks. If you can't take the time to write a real note, then why would you expect someone else to take the time to reply?
Some winks I respond to, some I don't. It all depends on the person doing the winking and my mood at the time. Personally, I never send a wink. If I have interest in someone, I write to them. I'm not the most energetic person in the world, (especially now after being up all night trying to finish an assignment), but it really does not take much of an effort to write, rather than wink.

I also agree, because if they meant more than a wink they would send you an email.
I wink to say, you are hot, I like the way you think, etc... not because i want you. sorry

I think a wink is a 'lite' form of email flirting. Probably just testing the water and perhaps not necessarily expecting a response, but if you get one, if the urge turns out mutual, then that's great. You go from there. I seldom wink, but do on rare occasion. I do like that feature however.
On the other hand I'll both write and receive a certain amount of emails that are not really intended as flirting, but merely to make a comment on something in the profile or a blog or a picture. Sometimes even a forum post. So those are not necessarily always about flirting.

I think of it a wink like this .... a man goes thru lots of profiles and winks to all he finds attractive and its easier than writing a mail ... and its a numbers game .. send out lots and maybe someone will reply
If you are really interested put a few words down .. something personal.
I have had the sort of "chain mail" from guys and then a few weeks later received the same mail from the same guy ....
Sorry if it bugs you guys but we like to feel somone has taken time to compose a little something individual.
However a wink is always a positive thing in that its better than being ignored

I have this phrase in my profile for a few simple reasons.
One is that 99% of winks I recieve are from men that never even view my profile. They just check everyone on the front page and send out winks to every woman hoping to get a response from at least one, hence improving their chances. I find this a rather lazy way of corresponding.
Two is that a wink is a way of telling me you are shy, unable to communicate and therefore I don't think we will be a good match.
Three is that most winks I did respond to, I never heard a peep back. So I made it very clear....if you want to communicate with me...you're going to have to at least come up with a one liner......
I do think winks can be fun once you know the person, a way of continuing the flirting, or perhaps if you somehow have not heard from the person in a while.....send a wink, let them know you are thinking about them.
It has nothing to do with me being to "good" or to "hot" to respond.

Personally... I just don't like the winking thing. I figure if someone wants to say hello then just say it instead of sending that creepy wink thing. The worse that can happen is that the person you say hello to will either say they are not interested or they are seeing someone right?

Well, I love the winks and all of the flirting that goes with it--I send 'em and I email 'em too, and if they don't respond, well, shucks, it's their loss
