Does anybody know of people that have tried Speed Dating/Table for 8/Social Clubs/etc.? If so, did anyone have success? If not, what were the biggest complaints?

I use to be on a list and get emails from something called The Social Connection, which I believe is regional (you can do a net search if you want). Anyone ever heard of them? It’s a local group that set up parties for singles, speed-dating outings, and Table for 4/8 type of occasions. I never went on any of the outings because they were either too expensive or not very geographically convenient.

Just curious.

I read about a group that sets up dates to NASCAR races. It's a great idea if you're into racing. It's expensive due to the cost of tickets alone. I know Ive met a lot of new friends at the races that I meet up with every time I go. Ive got some friends from Canada that spend the weekend here at my house everytime they come for a race.

Well I tell you what you don't want to try...Personal dating services..

I was one of the idiots that bought into that scam..Take what you have with any internet dating service, lower your options and then pay BIG $$$$ for it..

For the ladies I don't know. The men to woman ratio is more then high its overwhelming.. Imagine being pressure to date lots of men some of which you have nothing in common with because so many...

I've heard those personal dating services are pricey, promise the moon, and don't deliver much.

The Nascar functions sound interesting bob, but you're right, I'd think the people attending would be hardcore Nascar fans.

Well, "The Social Connection" organization prominently displays messages like "Ladies, sold out...many places still available for Men!”. From the sound of it there’s at least a two-to-one ratio of “women” to men at most of these functions? Wow, if it’s true. The next event is tomorrow night, “Food, Wine and Scotch sampling”, at an up-scale restaurant in a city called Royal Oak here in Metro Detroit. They also throw “euchre and dinner” parties, golf outings, ski trips, dances, cosmic bowling nights, in addition to Speed Dating parties and Table for 8’s. The next big thing is their New Year’s Eve Bash called the Resolution Ball.

I have to admit, their pitch does sound awfully tempting.

Ditto. I tried Matchmaker International, and paid a bundle to join. They sent me so many screwed up matches that I told them to never bother me again. The membership stays active until they get me married off, but they're never getting the chance again.

Studies of different forms of dating services have shown all of them to be less successful than random matching.

The only dating strategy that turned out to be more successful than random matching, albeit only slightly more successful... are you ready for this?

Blind dates set up by mutual friends.

Wow, grey!!!...lol Maybe they work because there's no built up pressure and anxiety beforehand. You just meet and either hit it off or not.

The theory put forth in the study was that a mutual friend knows both people and feels intuitively that they are right for each other.

Lol eharmony

I did thier personality profile.

I came back as unmatchable.

Geez nothing like a dating site telling you to give up loser there ain't no one out there for you.

They were probably just trying to tell me I'm unique.

Try the $2,750.00 I paid for Matchmaker International, and then get back to me.

Dayum!!! Uhm.. if you tried that... well.. uhm.. nothing I can do will work!! I am doomed to be single forever!!!

I tried a blind date.. a mutual friend .. talked the guy up... nice.. single.. divorced.. parent.. she forgot to mention the age.. *yes, as much as I hate to admit it.. I have an age issue*...

He is truely a nice guy... saw his true colors later on tho... I can handle sarcasm.. but when every line or phrase out of his mouth was seething with it...

I just worked with a guy that used eHarmony, Mel. He found somebody that lives in Massachusetts on there, so he retired (he was 65), packed up, and moved there to be with her.

That's the ONLY success story I've heard with that site...lol. Yep, and for $60 a month they better guarantee a match.

He was on Match for about six months, no luck, then switched over to Harmony. I guess he found her rather quickly, about a month or so. He told me he preferred eHarmony over Match, but I've heard many others that can't stand the site, so guess it depends on the person.

Maybe it was that 1 hour personality profile that folks have to answer before posting a profile.. LOL

I prefer here.. or "not gonna say cause I could get in trouble".. because they are 100% free!!

Even if by going thru a place that asks for payment for a match.. can't guarantee a true match in any given time... wold rather speak my mind to all those who can see it and not have to pay to view..

Congrats to your friend Motown.. many more Bright Blessings to him...
