Heterosexual men looking for love online on Valentine's Day -- or any other day, for that matter -- may want to consider which sites are most popular with the opposite sex. For straight women, well, that may not be so easy.
Although the number of people visiting Internet dating sites is split almost evenly between the sexes, they're not visiting the same sites, according to Hitwise, an online competitive intelligence service.
Almost 51% of visitors to the most popular online dating sites monitored by Hitwise last week were male and just over 49% were female. Of the top 100 dating sites monitored by the company, women favored Love Access, which drew 87.4% female visitors and less than 13% male visitors during the week ending Feb. 10, according to Hitwise figures. SeniorPeopleMeet.com, CatholicMatch.com, and Don't Date Him Girl! (which posts more warnings than endorsements of singles and cheaters) also had a disproportionate percentage of women visiting, according to Hitwise. EHarmony.com's visitors were nearly 69% female, as well, Hitwise said.
Representatives from the companies didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.

"Gender differences are evident everywhere online," LeeAnn Prescott, director of research at Hitwise, said in a prepared statement. "While the larger dating Web sites have more equal male/female visitor ratios, this data proves that online dating sites must work harder to provide a critical mass and balance of members in order to attract additional singles."
Though it's not clear whether foreign brides, gay men, or straight American women are getting the most gifts on Valentine's Day, those who do receive gifts are likely to get "sweet things," according to a Hitwise blog. The blog states that home-delivered pajamas, chocolate-covered fruit, or organic flowers, are popular among recent Internet searches.

HAR! Turns out that at POF you can't start a thread that's exclusive to a single gender. I can refer to ladies...but I can't start a thread that's aimed just at them.
So I repost the thing with the title: Having trouble finding a SO online?

This sounds like a flawed report. I've never even heard of "Love Access"?!? I wonder how few members you'd have to have to be in the top 100? Seems like they were desperate to get sites if mail-order bride sites and Don't Date Him Girl count. For all we know they're logging URL hits from peoples' computers and getting automatically generated hits due to SPAM.
Women seeking straight men could try to get onto sites offering foreign brides. I wouldn't argue that there are probably gender biases toward certain sites, like possibly women on e-harmony, but I find it doubtful that many guys hang out on mail order bride sites. It's also unsurprising that it's disproportionally men, on a "foreign bride" site, what'd they expect!?!
It'd be nice to see their raw data. I mean seriously (numbers made up here but), are you better off on the #1 site that has 300,000 members and is 50% male / 50% female or the #100 site that only has 300 members (probably none of whom live remotely near you) but is 85%/15%???
Is that Love Access site even legit? I did the preview search from their main page and all the women's profiles who came up looked like ones I'd write off as fake. Tip to dating sites, I won't even sign up if it won't give me an honest preview of search results.

I don't agree with the findings. Although matchdoctor is the best site, there are other free LEGIT sites also. As mentioned POF, Love Access, mate1 and BOM...to name a few. WHAT? I'm a dating site junky!

Love Access is a legitimate site, although it isn't free. Love Access is a PAY site,or at least it was. It has been around quite a long time. I myself have an account there; but have it deactivated at the moment, since I am not looking for anyone. Several years ago, I did meet several very nice gentlemen.....two of them are still friends, even though the "spark" wasn't there romantically. It is a very nice site, and I believe they recently added forums along with having chat, web-cam chat rooms, and other features.

I joined Love Access in 2003, and they had a one time membership fee. I suppose things have changed, due to the competition between online date sites.

I'd be interested in seeing more of the demographics involved, especially the ages the sampling.

I'm not thrilled with some of the other said sites either, to be honest. Only been on a couple or three tho.  And only one other free one.

heck there are tons of free dating sites...but by far the best has got to be MD
love access, POF, okcupid , Mingles, blah blah blah got about 25 profiles my self floating around and where do I spend most of my time?... HERE
and now ON topic .. ahem... finding decent guys online isnt hard its finding one that isnt across country from you is... its the old Murphys Law thing you live in LA your soul mate lives in NY you move to NY they move to LA then you move back to LA they get transferred to Zimbabwe or sum chit 
Bobbie are you messing with the mods over to POF?? they are soooooooooo touchy over there thier egos get bruised very easily
