What is Class?? And do you require class in your dates?
If so: High Class? -or- Low Class?
Which is better? And how would you define it anyway?

Aw shoot. Requiring class is the easy half of the answer...defining it is the hard part.
(I've been shocked a couple of times by guys who actually believed they didn't have enough "class" to get me to look at them twice. Silly boys -- had more class in their pinkies than most of them-thar-fancy-fellas )

Yeah, what SunBabe said.
It's subjective: One person's class is another's uptight, just as one person's confidence is another's arrogance. I want a woman with "class", by which I suppose I mean self-respect, integrity and a certain amount of subtlety of wit.

Aw shoot. Requiring class is the easy half of the answer...defining it is the hard part. I had never considered myself as classy, as I had always interpreted it as the ritzy, nose in the air types. I being just a plain ole country girl, just didn't quite fit the mold. Not giving a hoot about material things as long as we had a roof over our heads and food on the table.
I changed my mind recently after talking to a "gentleman". He informed me that if I didn't know how to act, dress and order wine in a five star restaurant, then I didn't have class. I realized then that I had more class then he could ever imagine, even if I only served a weinee roasted over a fire and a cold beer.
I mean self-respect, integrity and a certain amount of subtlety of wit. I also agree with Monsterboy. I have that covered! Well, maybe not the subtlety part, but when I need to I can behave.

Oh boy good post MM .... I love a man with class ... find it soooooooo sexy and attractive
Class never runs scared. It is sure-footed and confident in the knowledge that you can meet life head on and handle whatever comes along. Class never makes excuses. It takes its lumps and learns from past mistakes. Class is considerate of others. It knows that good manners are nothing more than a series of small sacrifices.
Class never tries to build itself up by tearing others down. Class is already up and need not strive to look better by making others look worse. Class can "walk with kings and keep its virtue and talk with crowds and keep the common touch." Everyone is comfortable with the person who has class because he is comfortable with himself.
If you have class you don't need much of anything else. If you don't have it, no matter what else you have, it doesn't make much difference.
class is an edge ... a je ne sais quoi ... like integrity its something you cannot buy ... you either have it or not

I guess I like them to have the appearance of "class" but to have an utterly low class sense of humor.

ditto...
I think part of it (only part!) is the way you handle yourself (let's see Touch run with that one-hehe!)
If you are overbearing, rude, dishonest or unfaithful-that's NO class. I've dated execs, I've dated a "biker." The jeans and do-rag-wearing guy had far more class, as it were.
I don't think you can be "low" or "high"-you just HAVE it or you don't.

hmmm... these people are making me redefine "Class",
I grew up in a "semi-affluent" suburban area, watching the rich kids with the shiny new toys, special clubs, etc... My family was middle class, but a working class, My family never hired plumbers, electricians, carpenters, someone in the family always knew one trade or another....
I remember seeing and hearing the race riots in the 60's, and I'm shocked at my memories... How the Minister at our church refered to "Us" and "them"... The fear and anger that was so pervasive....
I would never use the term, "Class", I enjoy people who put a high value on other people, and who treat people as they expect to be treated...

people who put a high value on other people, and who treat people as they expect to be treated... That works for me. And mostly just avoid the ones who don't do the same.

Grumble class, for me . has nothing to do with money ..
Class is considerate of others. It knows that good manners are nothing more than a series of small sacrifices.
Class never tries to build itself up by tearing others down. Class is already up and need not strive to look better by making others look worse. class is not about having the most expensive or the best ... but having lesser and doing it with dignity and style

Do I require class? Absolutely! I cannot even get mildly attracted to a woman who is uncouth, rude, contentious, potty mouthed, or acts like a barbarian.
Defining class is much harder. When you do so, you run the risk of violating other peoples definitions of class. So let's just say that to me, class is refined, graceful, elegant, having a healthy self image, high moral and ethical standards and being comfortable in yourself and your desire to be a cut above mediocrity and the need to be common.
Some classy women in my life were my mother and grandmother. My grandmother was a typical 50's type wife and mom who knew how to walk with the rich and influential and always made my grandfather shine as he eventually became the vice president of the largest tool company in America at that time.
My mother owned a tavern and yet absolutely forbid the customers to use the "F" word in her establishment and yet had the busiest tavern in the area. Both women in different worlds still had class.

Perhaps I am a simpleton, but I would have to say that simply acting as a lady, or a gentleman would say to others that you have at least the basis, of what most consider class.....jmo And I love the definition (of being a lady or a gentleman) that appeared in the movie "Blast from the past"........anybody remember?
