To echo the sentiments of many of the above, no, you are not insane, though I'm not so certain about the guy you are seeing.
His actions are those of a control freak. By repeating your words, he assumes ownership and control of them. It is the first step in a process that will get worse, not better over time. By taking those words to his daughter, he again is showing control, by giving her a place above you.
My advice, run away as far and as fast as you can. This guy has issues and over time, he will only get worse.

 I agree. Joking aside, the guy has a problem and I hope he does something about it, for his kids' sakes. Don't kid yourself that he's really a nice guy...he's not. He's manipulating all of you, you and the kids, and that is NOT a good guy in any way.

I agree with the above^^^^.
You can not be friends with your children. They need to know boundry's.
These teens have a life, ( I hope this one does) with school and all the stuff that goes on in High school.
Dump him, and maybe some where down the line, you two can talk again.
My sons always know they are on the top of my list. We have a wonderful bond that no one can break. I still was the "Mom" though.

lol. lj, leave to you to go trying to pick up women on my thread.  after doing much thinking and taking everyones advice to heart, i do know what has to be done next. somewhere along the way i lost the part of me that wouldn't have put up with this a year ago, it's time to find her again. thanks to all who took the time to put their 2 cents in.
