Background checks? holly crap, just how good of liars are these guys? I mean it really can't be that hard to catch somebody in a lie, especially if they spend 6-8 hours sleeping, 8 hours working, you have time in there for eating, commuting.......How in the hell can you not realize if they spend 50-80% of their time living with someone. It has been my opinion you need a hell of a lot of free time to perpetrate a lie of that magnitude.

Some of them are working out of town on business, so they are not living with their wives.

Are they working and happen to be in your town, cuz that sounds like they just want company while they are out of town.
I would have to say, if you center many of your questions around his kids, he is bound to slip in one way or another.
Hell, ask him about laundry, cooking, cleaning, cuz if he has a wife he doesn't do half of that shit.....Oh, also ask him about grocery shopping.........90% of men can't find more than bread and milk.

He told me he was a gourmet cook...that was probably a lie too. The really funny thing is that he wasn't even in my state, let alone town. We never met. I would have been happy to send e-mails back and forth with him knowing he was married. Not only did we talk about his kids, he sent me more pictures of them.

I think most people ivovled in something like this choose to ignore the red falds that are thrown up, because they are always there. You just have to pay attention to them!

Yes, a guy who says he is a gourmet cook and isn't fat. That's a big red flag right there; never trust a thin cook.

So how did you find out he was married?

Mary- first of all let me say it is hilarious you just posted, because I was just about to post on here asking what happened to you; I just knew you should be responding.

Anyway, in answer to your question. I don't know; it just occured to me when reading one of the posts on here that he is probably married and once I realized that it explained all of his strange behavior. I sent an e-mail to one of my friends and the second he read "married" in my email, he had the exact same reaction I did- he's like Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh- THAT explains everything. I guess you could say it was an "Ah Ha" moment for both of those; very obvious once it occurred to me. The reason I didn't think of it before was that there doesn't seem to be any reason for the lie, because we never met.

So you don't know for sure that the guy is married...?

Wouldn't it have been much easier to just write the guy and ask him? And here you are writing emails, posting, asking about background checks when sometimes the simplest solution is the best.

You would be surprised at the amount of married, or otherwise engaged people who are on the internet having fantasy relationships in their heads. It is a sad sign of the emotional health of the person.

I agree with Mary that these background checks are borderline stalking/invasion of privacy. There are much easier ways to tell if a man is married. One is to get their home land line phone number so you can call late at night when you feel the need for their voice, their physical address so you can send them a gift, ect. I am sure that the Mrs. will not appreciate those things happening!

Nice to see you back Dooney.

Hi Dukums. Thank you; it's fun to be back.

By the way, Mary, I did not actually consider doing a background check; it just got me thinking about it and I was curious. (It's dangerous to get me thinking about something.) Anyway, I'm not chatting with him anymore, so there wouldn't be any point to a background check anyway. If this ever comes up again, I'll just take your earlier advice (plus get a camera w/ a telephoto lens).
