What does it mean when a person tells you that you can have anything or anyone that you want?
I have to ask this because I have been hearing it since I was a teen and think it's BULLSHIT! The reason why i say it's BULLSHIT is because when I turned to the person(s) stating that, my answer would be: Well why don't I have you then?
Help me out here...What does that Statement REALLY mean?

They say it to cheer you up mostly. Get you in good spirits. It can also be a very flattering compliment about you.

It means that the person who was talking to you has no concept of reality.

It is a cliche' that means anything is possible. It cannot be taken literal, but we can accomplish things that seem impossible if we put our mind to it.

I hear it all the time "You're so hot you could have anybody"
But I barely get any attention from anyone outside the internet.
It's just flattery.

It means that the person who was talking to you has no concept of reality. Or else a very different one...it was over 20 years ago when I first heard the phrase "you create your own reality." I've come to believe that to a great extent, we do. If you're negative, you'll draw negative to you, positive draws positive...mostly because like attracts like.
I can only say it's worked pretty damned well for me, but then I've been a Met fan for a long time..."You gotta believe"

I couldn't count the times I've had friends say that to me, and it usualy meant they didn't approve of who I was dating or thinking about dating....or was glad I just broke up with whatever guy I just broke up with.

Hmmm I see 2 different points of view--one says that this is told to you to cheer you up or cheer you on. The other point of view is that this is said to show you that you can do better than what you've done. Very interesting.
I've always thought it was a way of telling you that the sky is the limit. You are your own person and can manage your own destiny.
These threads always educate me.

Notice that it's being said to everyone that just happens to be on a dating site....I think it's akin to "you have a nice personality"....you're basically screwed.....sort of like a social leper..

I guess I prefer to be optimistic about it and look at it as being an ego booster when it's said to you. JMO

I tend more to believe this.....If you put your mind to something things can happen...but I dont think it has to do with relationships...There are too many factors involved there...but jobwise...lifestyle....ect...I do agree you can have what you want.
