Does this bother anyone else as much as it does me?

I'm not usually that picky when it comes to dating and I usually try to get to know everyone before deciding if I should reject them or not. But, one thing that annoys me more than anything else on a dating site is when someone doesn't take the time to make sure they spell things correctly on their profile.

I look at it like this: Your profile is technically part of an interview process. Would you show up for an interview wearing spandex biker shorts, a turtleneck, knee high socks and dress shoes?

Most Men/Women read through profiles to see who interests them before making first contact (whether that be a wink or email) and I think you should really put something into writing these profiles. At least put something you want people to know up front before contacting you. Even if you don't have much to say at least spell nothing correctly.

OK, so I've had my rant for the day... Any thoughts?

I had a thought and now it escaped again.

Yes, this is one of my pet peeves. I know I can miss spell a word just like anyone else. At least if I can't think of how to spell it I find another word that would work instead.

Most men, I've found in my short time here, don't usually know how attractive a well written email is! The ones that are well thought out are much easier to respond to, and maybe I'm a grammar snob, but I don't do "coffy".

I just wanted to add that I don't mind if misspellings occur in the forums or in chat rooms or on IM because thats just chatting and a lot of people think faster than they can type, that's understandable, but I think a profile should be taken a little more seriously and a little effort put forth.

Thank YOU!...one "grammar nazi" is two too many..
.But, i do appreciate your skill.. ..you have my permission to review my profile and suggest alternative spellings.... ....i do ocasionally see a word misspelled in a profile and in an email to me..i let it slide...the anal-retentive gene must be recessive in me..

My apologies, I should have qualified that as well.

I'm sure our friendly, spelling-challenged posters are quite impressively loquacious in person, so I'll cut them some slack.

What er u all tawkin bout?

All I have to say is that I try to be polite to those who misspell but don't find it a very attractive trait. I can say that one time a woman started IMing me who appeared to be very slow and misspelled a lot of words. I was thinking, oh boy, here's a loser and almost decided not to respond back the next time she IM'd.

Am I ever glad I didn't follow through with that one. She IM'd the next day and I found out she was intelligent (still don't know why she was mispelling words and slow the night before), had her own successful business and when she sent me her pics.... YOWZA!

Or was it she sent me her pics first and then all of a sudden became very smart? I don't recall now... hmmmm. I can say we had a lot of fun together.

Hehe, well, she said she was. After I got to know here I didn't really care about it any more.

Just saying even though I would consider myself a spelling parvenu, you can't always judge a book by it's cover. Proper spelling and grammar do go a long way though.

I have to agree that spelling give me a higher opinion of the person and their profile. We are all not perfect and do make mistakes, hey...I made one once, I think. I agree with those that compared a profile with a resume. In regards to IM's, sometimes and probably always...the brain is faster than fingers...if I see a big mistake I will correct it before sending but if I goof I make a joke of it or send a smiley. In other words guys...to me spelling gives me a nice impression of the person. Off my soapbox now, someone else can get on it.
