now is that a half-truth or a lie? the old saying is that anyone that says they don't lie is full of it.

I think most people don't lie, they mislead. Sometimes without realizing it.
For example, they choose their best pic to put online. They don't really look like the pic, but it is good marketing. The problem is when they meet someone in realtime, that person is going to feel he/she has been lied to.
If you present yourself as someone you are not, you will find a person who is attracted to someone you are not.

There is a difference between lies and deceit. A lie is simply false information. Deceit however can be truthful information presented in such a fashion as to mislead. The 5 year old picture would be deceit, it is actually a truthful picture of the individual but it no longer is an accurate representation of what they look like now. A lie would be knowing your weight and simply putting down a false number.
Lies and deceit are not gender specific, however there are people that do try their best not to intentionally deceive or lie. I think it's relatively easy to see which tendency is present in someone you're trying to develop a relationship with, especially if your own habit is to tell the truth...

I don't! I look exactly like my pic...well..I did just get a hair cut...lol..but basically it's the same anyway...and I never lie about my weight. Just met someone recently and let me tell you...HE lied about himself...was at least 20 years older than he said and didn't look anything like his description. Took it as a lesson learned.

Lets face it, almost everyone who has tried internet dating and met people from a site such as this, has met someone who lied about something (Age, weight, appearance, likes, marriage status, etc). It comes with the territory. Of course, the same thing happens at bars or any other place that you might meet someone. My belief on this is that most people lie out of insecurities and I feel badly for them. Once I thought that if I found out someone lied to me about something that I would just stop talking to them. Now, I tend to think I will try to understand why they lied and even help them get some of their confidence back so they don't feel compelled to lie to others. However, it is admittedly disappointing. The lesson learned is be cautious, but don't be overly cautious because then you might not ever meet anyone!!!

also,I'm afraid of taking another pic..I'm not too sure I have aged all that well...,lets face it, this is a hot topic....
Please don't take offense at this, but you are only setting yourself up for some disappointment if you ever meet anyone who is basing your appearance on the image you have online now. Not to mention the fact that you may very well cause some pain to whoever you are pursuing a relationship with, they may even feel that you were not being as truthful with them as they felt you should be.
You can describe things with a hundred emails, but a picture really does paint a 1000 words...

Well, I have never been lied about my weight and age! Sometimes I can joke that I am an old witch in my 34.:) About weight? seem to me I lost about 6-7 lbs lately. Does it make any great difference?
I guess that the author initialized the topic seem to be created "absolute-divine-woman" and he is fall with photos.
Due to my recent job I saw hundreds of pics sent me by Internet (to recognize a person in airport), and I can tell you that people are alike in 10% maybe. Don't believe pics!

Age and weight, these are two things that are impossible hide. A person may be able to decieve another about your age, but not forever. I'm remined of the phrase " What a tangled web we weave, whe we conspire to decieve." It only bring up more questions, what else could you be decieving me about?
I'm a firm beliver in honesty is the best policy.

maybeybird:misskitty56: You ask why people are so shallow? You, who post a 4 year-old picture rather than just tell people you've gained weight. Don't you realize that makes you shallow, too? If you really didn't care about looks, you would have posted a recent picture and told anyone who didn't like it to take a flying leap.
My pic is at least 4 years old too. Why? Because I like that pic. It looks like me now too.

Misskitty already said she does not look like that 4 year old picture, she said she has gained weight, hasn't aged well and that it was an uncomfortable topic, maybeybird certainly has a valid point.
Surely you wouldn't condone the practice of posting gestures on a site such as this that do not accurately portray what one looks like?
