Winks are a great way to express some interest in a person without wasting the time of typing a message that someone will not respond too...but if you send a wink and then I respond to you, why do over 80% of you guys not respond back... I can't figure it out....

Irritating isn't it? If they don't want to talk then I wish they wouldn't wink then ignore an e-mail from me.

....nice profile!...pretty lady!....can't see why a legitimate guy would not respond to your emails...could be something in the email.. .what do you say to them? ...
unless, the wink is the extent of their communication ability...

I'm with you Patricia......it makes absolutely no sense. It surely can't be the fear of rejection....they sent a wink and got a response.
Sponge and Skinny: Could you spread the word to the guys---only send a wink if there is a true interest and for Pete's sake, if they get a response (whether a return wink or a quick e-mail), that means that the woman is interested in getting to know the man a little better!!! Thanks!!!!
Poor girl, her first post and she runs into us. Spongie....you guys aren't that bad....don't scare the poor girl away!!!!
Patricia.......Welcome!!!!!!!!

Winks just show initial interest. People are getting too hung up on winks, views, whatever. You'll know when there's genuine attraction when "both" parties send interesting, respectful, and playful emails back and forth. At least "this" part of Internet dating should not be rocket science, people....please? (lol)

Winks are handy on sites that don't allow free email. You can wink someone and if they are a member, they can email you back. On a site like this one - that is generous enough to let non-paying members have email privledges (thank you!), winks are boring little irritants that don't really mean anything more than "check out my profile" (I'm just sure the posse of winkers are going to wink me now) . So yes, Patricia, you're right in your assumption - they don't mean anything here except the person was too lazy to write to you in the first place.

assumptions run rampant... WHO decides what anything means??, I disagree with you here...my vote cancels out yours..so we are back to the origional question...

Winks are simple,if you send one and get nothing in return that just means there is no interest.Whenever I get a wink from someone that I might like, I just simply wink back and wait to see why they winked in the first place.
Its just another way to get some attention to yourself. These are basically classifieds for love.

I agree with pete, winks on pay sites are great to get the person to check out the profile. But on awesome sites like this one then there really are no need for them. It is just for lazy people who don't want to take the time to write.

I agree too with Pete. Zestful though, I do not agree with how you see it. I do not really take someone seriously when they wink at me. I
get a ton of those and I think I have only ever responded to like 2 or 3. I don't even usually check out their profiles from a wink. It is hard enough to check out the ones that take the time to write!

I think that's a little unfair. I tend to agree with 'Patricia Sunshine,' that it's a quick way to express interest in someone who may not reciprocate it. How much time does it take to email back with 'Thanks but no thanks?' 'Civility costs nothing' as the late Tony Hanc0ck was fond of saying and I think this is an example of one of those occasions when a reply, however brief or terse, is simply good manners. YMMV.
p.s. Isn't a bit OTT that the forum moral guardian censors any word with 'c0ck' in it, however innocent, particularly when it's so easy to circumvent? Just asking...

Hi, I am sorry Alectryon, but do you really think that I should check you out and write you mail when all you really probably did (in realistic reality anyway)was click a button because you saw my pic?
disclaimer: I am not saying that "you" have particularly done this, just an example,

Actually I don't recall 'winking' you. If I did, I apologise.
The only 'winks' I've personally sent have been to people whose profiles I found interesting, but either included some restriction (age limit, non-smoker, not interested in guys outside the US, etc), or who wanted kids. If I wrote to everyone who fell into that category I'd be doing nothing else; so a 'wink' seemed an appropriate way to say 'hi' without wasting my time or theirs.
As I said above, if the recipient is not interested, a one line answer would suffice; how hard is that?
FWIW, I've replied to every 'wink' I've received, sometimes at great length. But I am new here, so if 'winks' are not the way to approach people I'm happy to be corrected.
