Waaaaaaaaaay back in the stone ages when I was in school I met guys to date. Since then, it's been pretty much guys I meet online. I have tried to start conversations in the grocery store or Wal-Mart, but it never goes anywhere. My job as a teacher does not bring me into contact with a lot of men. We only have 3 men on our campus and the rest are female!

You're just soooooooo wiccked!
For me it's been work, much more often than not. Going back into prehistory though, never at school (all girls), but my brother's friends were fair game. He introduced me to my ex (but I've since forgiven him). Some of the places I've met guys I've dated .... riding the subway every day, finally talking, then dating; one I never dated but should have - he was driving a cab I was in, we were stuck in traffic for an hour, ended up talking and playing chess and had a great time; in a looooong line for sushi at the local supermarket; on a plane to London; relatives of friends...lately just the internet though.

I have been asked out over the phone chat lines that are local to this area. The downside of it is that my finger is on number 3 for the next caller. You can tell by their introduction if you even want to talk with them. But there have been a few nice ones on the lines. We have talked then met but it just didn't work out.

If I met people in real life I would never be on the internet looking!
But I am thankful I found my friends here at MD, so it's all good!

Shopping, walking, anywhere there are people (as said before- outside of ladies rooms are great places except in some bars you have to be a little careful).
All you need to do is start a conversation- stupidity really helps as it gets things off to a humorous start. Most people love to talk when they feel comfortable, so a bad first question would be "are you promiscuous?". Don't laugh as I have heard a thousand variations of that one.
But starting a conversation is a great fear for many because there is a chance of- dare I say the word- rejection. So back to the safety of the keyboard and screen where rejection is not so bad (it is an inanimate object).
Go out into the world and try conversation- if nothing else you tend to meet some interesting characters (or maybe that's what they say about me).

like grumble i pretty much stay at home.. BUT shooting pool i meet new people and friends and it's just a matter of luck where or when you could actually meet someone local that could become a possible interest.. destiny chooses, i don't...... but ala atural is a great way, but the friends in MD are wonderful to know even if there is distance and just have someone to talk to on a friends basis..
