British Slang Question

Hello,

I know there are a few people from the UK here, and I have a question about the slang word 'missus'. It can be wife or girlfriend? If a man uses it about his girlfriend, does it have some significance?

Thanks if you know!

well I would say it shows that he feel attached to the lady ...if she is a girlfriend she is not just casual

apart from that none I know of .... just means my woman / wife

Thanks, Blondino. :)
The man I'm with calls me that from time to time. And well, I'd like to actually be his 'missus' for real.

Speaking of BritSpeak- if my precious daughter (when she's old enough) ever dates an Englishman, or other male that speaks the King's English rather than our standard American, could someone please remind me to remind him NOT to inadvertantly tell her, "I'll knock you up..." within earshot of me? I wouldn't want to accidentally kill him because he innocently meant that he'll call her.

Thanks!
