I did some research and found that most women are looking for men around their age to about 5-15 years older, while men are looking for much younger women. I saw one guy in his forties looking for a woman 18-35! What is the psychology behind this? It makes me think that people are not seriously looking for a relationship. Am I delusional to honestly look online and think I may at least have a few non-psychotic dates? Is anyone else out there being honest?

age gaps are getting a bit closer these days - 150 years ago in England it was not uncommon for a rich guy (like me -HA!) in his 40's wedding a 15yr old. ever read Little Dorrit by Dickens - he was a kiddie fiddler !!

well.. if you want to get to the psycholigy and science of it, Nature makes most women want someone to take care of them, to feel safe and secure which you can only get in most cases from an older man. Men unfortunately mature 5 times slower than women. ..SO.. a man will want a woman younger to co incide with his mental attitude.
This isnt always the case with all couples, but thats the scientific explanation anyway.

let us consider physiology v/s psychology. if you cannot keep up, male or female, logic implies that psychology matters little. if you can, wow! what a war of the minds! we be jammin

Personally, I don't get it. I'm most comfortable with someone within a few years, one way or the other, of my own age. Get too far away from that, and there just seems to be less and less of a common ground - it's like we're from two completely different generations! (Wait a sec - we ARE from two completely different generations! )
And what in the WORLD would I do with an 18 year old? Spank her and send her to bed without supper? Ground her for a week? WHAT? (Wait a minute....can we go back to that "spanking" part for a moment??? )

artsmartwoman posted, "I did some research and found that most women are looking for men around their age to about 5-15 years older, while men are looking for much younger women. I saw one guy in his forties looking for a woman 18-35!" lets see : the guy is 40 something... so 40 minus 5 is 35, and 40 minus 15 is 25, so he is looking for 18-35, and the women's range for him is 25-35....
even if he was 45, his female counterparts of 30-40 would be looking, leaving a fair amount of overlap....
there are studies that claim men are wired to look for "fertile women" to propagate the species.... some folks try to glorify humanity as something special... we may be, but we may just be an aberration of monkeys.....

I really think it's up to the individual and what you are most comfortable with. I'm dating a guy 8 yrs younger but we have a lot in common. Never run out of things to say. If I tried dating someone 15-20 yrs younger, I don't know that we would have too much in common. I do think being able to talk to your partner about most things is very important. But I also know another woman my age who is with a guy 20 yrs younger and it works for them. So again I say, it's up to the individuals involved.

The rule is that the woman should be half the man's age plus 7. So if a guy's 40, he should be looking for someone 27. If a guy's 90, he should be looking for someone around 52. That makes sense...

90 / 52 sounds a bit extreme doesn't it ? Mind you apparently I've got no sense of humour.
