hmm, if he is just a little shy maybe I could bring it out of him on the 2nd. If he's hot, nice, likes kids, etc...maybe I would. I didn't even want a FIRST date with my ex, but he grew on me the 2nd.

I think not - if you don't at least feel some attraction on the first date - I say it's time to move on

Nope, if there's no instant spark, then it's worthless having another date, unless you're looking for friendship!

hell yes Tulip, we're all confused, but in my experiences, if there was no excitement or even just a little spark on the first date, then it's very unlikely that a spark will develop.

I agree- if it's not there after the first date, I wouldn't bother going out with him again unless you just want to be friends. If you keep seeing him, you'll probably miss out on all the good stuff; when you smile every time you think of him, when you can't wait for him to call, you love to hear his voice, you can't wait to see him again, etc. Those are the ones to keep seeing.

I don't know, sometimes the spark isn't there on the first date but may show up on the 2nd. I'm not sure if one date is enough to tell sometimes. I tend to say give the guy/gal another chance just in case.

Depends on what you "did" feel. As long as there was some physical attraction and chemistry, and you connected with their personality on some level, I'd say give them another shot. I hate these extreme conditions people needlessly place on first meetings---this "all or nothing" mindset. People that think, "He/she's gotta knock my socks off or they're done....NEXT!" put way too much pressure on another person to live up to grossly unrealistic expectations.
I sure wouldn't want to be put under that kind of microscope, and I'm sure most wouldn't, either.

It's not unrealistic to want to feel some chemistry on a date to agree to go out with the person again. I know it's not unrealistic, because I've felt chemistry on a first date with a number of people that I've dated in the last few months. I especially felt it with my ex-husband; neither of us wanted our first date to end and then we couldn't wait to see each other the next day. It's a wonderful feeling and there's nothing unrealistic about wanting a little of that feeling.
