I think it is self explanatory. And I also think it rarely exists between adults. There are always conditions set on love. Or at least staying with someone you love.

with the understanding that unconditional is a misnomer it would mean if i were to fall in love with the twins they would have to love me back. wait, thats a condition. i got it, i fall in love with the twins. thats it. yep you fall in love. no other conditions, none what so ever. you just fall in love.

I think if we are lucky enough to be blessed with someone who loves us unconditionally we'll know it immediately. With them the words I love you will never be followed by but...
Kids, pets & grandparents are really great at showing us what unconditional love is as they love us thru the good, the bad & everything in between  & they aren't afraid to show us how they feel . It's a shame that somewhere between childhood & adulthood we loose that & it's not till we get much older that most of us remember how to give that kind of deep innocent love to another.

I think "unconditional love" is bout the stoopidest damn thing anyone ever dreamed up. I don't even think its love at all, but some sorta psychologynecology mental crutch.
Ever time I have seen it, it has been disastrous.
Some guy gets drunk reglar, beats his wife, whores around, yada-yada-yada, but the gal stays with him anyhow. Alright, that is damn stupid, ain't none a my business, but don't feed me this "I love him unconditional" bull sheit, that may make ya feel better but ain't no one else buying it.
There ain't no such thing as a healthy relationship when one person worships the other, but the othern treats them terrible. If you are treatin each right, the "unconditional" don't even come into it.
Dammit!!!! Real love ain't about that. Real love is more like, "Hey this is wonderful. I really enjoy being with you forever. The day comes you treat me like sheit, you'll be seein my taillights go up the road, AFTER I run my boot up yer arse"

Once again, Jaybird said it all. If you have self respect, then your love should be conditional. Accepting the good with the bad has never ment being a doormat. It simply means the ups and downs in a NORMAL life. At the first sign of disrespect of myself or the relationship.............I would be history.
Parent/child love is the closest thing to an unconditional love....................there have been moments when my daughter was a teenager, I even questioned that...............

Mmmm...good question. To me it's being able to deeply love someone regardless of any other factors.. sort of a no strings attached love. You give it all with out any reservations.

I might love unconditionally, but I won't stick around unconditionally - the one person I can't live without is me...if I find I'm losing who I am, I'm gone...no matter how it hurts.
(to clarify - I'm thinking back to when I was first divorced and had to relearn what my favorite foods were, what kind of music I liked, even who my friends were... I'd allowed myself to be controlled - never again).

That's a great definition for being deeply in love Scrops. 
To me unconditional love can have no definition, or it it instantly become conditional. Limited to the definition you set for it yourself.

Love (conditional or unconditional,) is wanting to do something good for somebody everyday - & wanting nothing in return.
Of course, that only works when it's a two way street.

When I think of unconditional love, I think of the love of a parent to a child, a grandparent to a child, or the love between a pet to it's owner.
Although I think of this as unconditional love, this love still does have some conditions.
If it was discovered that the child was a killer for instance, the parent would begin to feel different towards the child.
If the owner of the pet became abusive towards it, the pet would also begin to feel different..
Unconditional love can exist assuming all involved have just a basic sense of humanity
