Ok, I'm meeting a guy from here (again) lol. Decided to take my chances and hope this one wasn't lying about his age or his picture. So my question is, what do you talk about on the first "date"? How personal do you get with questions? I don't talk about sex, that's a no no with me. I usually judge my choice of topics by how comfortable I am with the person.

When I met my b/f for the first time, we talked about our jobs and families mostly. I initiated the first kiss when the date was over, something just clicked with us.

..Just meet without expectations and be yourself. If you have common interests, as you should have already discussed, communication just flows. If it becomes too personal and you are uncomfortable, then say so. If he is a decent guy and not a control freak, or insecure, he will understand. The reciprocation is for you and personal questions to him.
...First dates... family, goals and expand on them, future wants and needs, etc...
...You are a Jersey girl... if and after the meeting for coffee, drink, etc. and you both wish to continue as a date, you have amusement parks, beaches, etc.
Best wishes...

I guess, just try to find out his interests and if you share the same goals. The farther away they lived , the more questions I would ask, without getting too personal. Space tends to hide lots of things.

I don't plan out what I'm going to talk about. I let them take the lead with the conversation, and I just go with it. If I think of something I want to know about them or say to them, I ask it or say it. It's never really been a problem. It's interesting to see what the other person says. One guy talked about himself the whole date; one guy grilled me (I felt like I was on an interview to be his wife, and I think that's what he was doing) and then after the second date that guy sent me an e-mail bragging about all the money that he had made; and one guy wanted to play this "game" where we each ask the other 5 questions and the other person answers; you alternate who is asking the questions. Anyway, those are just a few examples. I think it's much easier to learn things about the other person, if I just let them take the initiative with the conversation. If you try to steer the conversation, you won't learn as much about them.

What I do is find a place that has Buzztime trivia. That will help fill in any gaps in a conversation. I believe, however, you answered your own question. You don't NEED to get personal on the first date. If you find it going in that direction, and you're uncomfortable with it, back out quick.
Good luck!

So my question is, what do you talk about on the first "date"? Talk about all the cool smilies you saw here.

Don't tell any of the guys you meet on the internet where you live or work. It can be disastrous should he turn out to be a flake or nutjob (there are plenty of them on the net AND here in Jersey). You're a young gal and probably don't have lots of broken relationships behind you - even if you have one or two, don't bring them up on your dates with the new guys. It's a huge turn-off. Any questions that seem too impersonal or inappropriate get the response "we can talk about it later" at which point you decide if you want to spend anymore time with the guy or tell him, "Yeah, like, later MUCH!"

Just be yourself, if it is right, you'll know it........And feel it......The conversation should come freely, and so should the subject matter. Good luck..........

I think you will know when you meet if you think you can talk about anything with the guy.
I met someone last night was not impressed at all! Flake or something like that..he may have communicated well to the point of me listening to him, but he was missing my whole conversation last night. I will not be seeing him again ~

what do you talk about on the first "date"? Did you say you are meeting him from matchdoctor? You both have a great source of things to talk about right here in your favorite forum.
How personal do you get with questions? Be prepared to answer any question that you want to ask him.

Talk about interests-sports, recreation, arts, music, etc. Then you will segue into what you are comfortable talking about without analyzing it.
