if it's not love love gained from a significant other, than you would not have to do anything to get it. Then it would be family/friend love, which is unconditional when you are accepted for who you are.

You' ve got it all backwards, pal...  The love you get from your family is hardly "unconditional". Parents love their kids on CONDITION that they WORK HARD ON CHANGING THEMSELVES , make their parents proud of them and eventually grow up and leave, have life of their own.Children love their parents ...on condition that they take care of them, entertain them, provide for them, pay for their education and eventually leave them the rest of their money to inherit.Our GFs, on the other hand ,get nothing of the kind from us - while used for satisfying our sexual needs and , commonly, as a free housekeepers/chefs also. Isn't it a God's miracle they still love us - despite anything? Now,that's what I call "unconditional love".... 
If you doubt it - just try to treat your kids the way you treat your GF and see if they still love you. ( I guarantee they will HATE you the very same minute you start having sex with them and demand that they cook for you). Also try to treat your GF the way you treat your kids - i.e. make her feel secure and protected and supported in her aspirations , etc. (with NO demands whatsoever ) - and watch how you, being the source of all this happiness and security , will become the center of her Universe , how your every need would be anticipated and taken care of . It's really THAT SIMPLE to have "unconditional love"....

The love you get from your family is hardly "unconditional". Have to agree with this.
IMO the only true, unflawed unconditional love that exists is that that comes from pets. You can beat them, starve them, and yet they still love. No matter what. Humans are incapable of this kind of love, as soon as we were old enough to understand how to put conditions on things, we did just that.
