Compliments..what does it mean?

Ok guys...do you give strangers compliments to make them feel good or is this a way to let a woman know you are interested in her?
On the 4th of July I went to my local Starbucks. I was met at the window by a nice looking guy. I gave him my credit card which has my name posted. He said, "Is Victoria your name?" I said, "Yes" He said, "It fits you perfectly, it is very beautiful." I said, thanks and left. It made me feel very good.
Then yesterday I again went through the drive through and I was messing with my Ipod while I waited. I heard him say from the window "Have you heard of the Anti-pod?" So we have a conversation about music and such devices.
I am having trouble reading him. Is this flirting or just being nice? I am trying to get the courage to ask him out next time I see him.
So tell me what you think....thanks!

Compliments may mean a lot, or they may mean nothing more than their content. Think of the reasons you give compliments.
A large part of this man's job is being friendly. If you're attracted to him, you may translate his chatting/niceness into being more. Or, he may actually intend more!
I think I (personally) would go into that Starbucks a couple more times and chat him up a bit. If I still wanted to know more, then I'd ask him out...but not for a coffee.

I am going to ask him out next time I see him. I go to Starbucks everyday and yes they are friendly but not that friendly..lol

I'm not trying to discourage you in any way, but when this type of thing happens during the customer/patron stage is can get very fuzzy. So if you think a compliment might be flirting, simply joke around........" you might not say that if I wasn't a customer " ( or something like that ) then laugh it off, and see what his reaction is,
If a man is giving you a compliment/flirting he may be afraid of crossing the delicate line while at work, but if it was actual flirting, he would want you to know he is serious,
( if you ask ).
I have this happen to me all the time, and some woman are just very friendly, it is still nice, but not as fun when you see a wedding ring, and she starts talking about her husband and kids....ect.......I have found that joking around, usually clears things up.....( like she says........" I work on tips you know.." those types of things...

Thanks Blueeyes..I actually thought to myself well if he was working on a tip I would not even think this was flirting..but he doesn't. I am going to "feel him out" and see where it goes :)

Speaking as a woman that's now head over heels for one of her 'regular customers' at work...sometimes the flirting is serious. If he had never asked, it might still just be flirting 
I suggested he go look at my myspace and gave him the link and my email, cuz you need that to access my myspace. He started emailing and now....

Actually he is the one that works at Starbucks and I am the customer. I am going there tomorrow so hopefully he is working :)

I agree with Di's statement, and would normally advise a little more research, but if he REALLY said "It fits you perfectly, it is very beautiful." then I do believe it's "go time!" Guys generally don't use words like "beautiful" unless they're putting themselves out there-if he was just being friendly, I think he mighta just said it's a "pretty" or "nice" name.
Of course, that's just how I see it; I could be wrong...
