In todays times with the internet and such, love and[ i use that term loosely] will only last as long as there is a lust or crush for that person at that time, till someone else comes alone to catch there eye and off they go.Unlike say our grand parents of years past love in most cases was there for a life time,No matter what problems life had to throw at them......
Could it be that the old fashion values of years past are all but gone???
I think there is more opportunity and temptation today than there was in our grandparent's day and there is also a very different social culture. Our grandparents didn't have to compete with images of the most beautiful and sexy people from all over the world every where they looked. Men didn't compare their wives to young beautiful sexy stars and models and feel cheated because they didn't have someone as physically perfect. Women didn't compare their husbands to fantasies of the perfect lover and husband. They could only compare themselves and others with their neighbors and families. I imagine most people were fairly happy with their choices. People couldn't communicate instantly with potential lovers and they couldn't travel as quickly and easily to meet them. It was socially unacceptable to leave your spouse and kids. There were no reliable birth control methods so when people had sex, it was more likely that a pregnancy would result so there was less casual sex than there is today. When people thought they were in love and contemplating marriage, they knew it was expected to last a lifetime. Men also knew that to have sex with a "respectable" woman, they were expected to get married. Sex and love weren't casual. In return for less freedom and choice of partners, they could usually depend on lifelong loyalty from the person they fell in love with when they were both young. It seemed to work very well for most people. Most older married couples seem very happy and content to be with the partners they've grown old with. The "free love" attitude of baby boomers cheapened love and sex and we're paying the price for it now by ending up alone and looking for love when we're older, more set in our ways, and less willing to risk another mistake.
