What is romantic for you (in general)?
And other more detailed question:
Would you call masculine behaviour a romantic one (in a man I mean)?

Nice topic Mart...Well lets see what Angel can contribute.
To be, romance is not in the physique appearance. Romance exists from the heart. We all have our favorite ambiance for romantic fantasies or settings. You can be with someone in a swamp and still be romantic. Its the smiles, the eyes, the breath, the touch, the whispers, the caressing, the slow movement of two people exploring. Candles, music, drinks, a roaring fireplace, the pitter patter of the rain, the falling glistening snow, the hot heat of august, the quiet night under the stars. That all is romance if two people express their true love and feelings. That is a beautiful gift of love to give one another.

I agree with Angel and will add that even a small gesture can be very romantic if it sends the message across that the person remembers what you like.
Because we didn't have money, before we had childlren my children's dad and I would ride our bicycles together. One day I noticed he lagged behind so I stopped to wait for me. When he joined me he brought me a rose he'd taken from someone's garden (not a good thing today, lol!) and told me he loved me. I thought it was such a romantic gesture I haven't forgotten about it to this day!
If only he'd kept that up... he had spoiled me since we met. During our first Valentine's we'd only known each other for 2-3 weeks yet ge gave me an enormous red heart full of chocolates, my weakness. I later found out he'd originally ordered that for another girl he stopped seeing but hey, my family, friends and I ate chocolates for a month!
Also writing little love notes, buying a woman sexy lingerie, showing chivalry, etc.
As to your question about masculine behaviour, you need to be more specific. Some masculine behaviours that come to my mind could be either gross, unappealing or even insensitive...

My ex and I had been separated for awhile, and I had moved back to my home state with the kids. We decided we wanted to at least discuss reconciliation, so I agreed to come up for a visit with his brother & sister-in-law. I was in the back seat with the children, and we were just coming up to the house when I heard her say "Oh My God"....I looked up and "Every Light In the House Was On" (a current CW song at the time describing a man keeping the lights on til his love came home), I had never seen our house glow like that.
Sounds cheezy, I know...especially if you hate CW.
But no gift, no amount of money could have sent that message.

There are as many different definitions or romantic as there are people.
For me it can be as simple as sitting on the tailgate of my truck in the middle of a forest clearing looking at the stars together and talking about trivial things.

As was stated earlier, small things that can easily go unnoticed....like the way my ex had coffee on for me when I woke up or made sure to record my favorite show when I had to work over, that kind of thing....

To me romance is leaving little notes around the house, a heart written in soap on the batroom mirror, but, the most romantic thing a guy ever did for me....I was working on new years eve (I know..the ONE year I actually HAD somone to kiss waiting at home and I've got to work right...lol) and needless to say, I had a horrendous night! Well, anyway, my boyfriend was babysitting for me and I called to check on my son, told him what a bad night I was having and that I wouldn't be home till after midnight....What I found when I got home made me fall in love with this man. My son, was in bed(his own for a change) and sleeping! My house was SPOTLESS!! He met me at the door and brought me to the bathroom, where he had prepared a candlelit bubble bath, complete with a chilled bottle of wine and if that alone were'nt enough...he climbed into the bubble bath behind me and proceeded to wash my hair! I've never had anyone think something that sweet up for me before. Like I said,,,that was the night I fell in love with him..
But here's a whole new question....( I might even make a post of it). Why is it, that the things a person is willing to do to get you, isn't what they're willing to keep doing to keep you? Just a thought.

It may not be a matter of will. I had a girlfriend who said she fell in love with me because I made her laugh. Then we ended up in a constantly irritating situation and I wasn't seeing much that was funny. When we split she said she still loved the man she knew before but he was gone.
Royal suckage.

A guy who makes me laugh gets me everytime.
Sometimes life throws one curve after another, and it's hard finding something to laugh at. That's when the going gets tough.
Roanin, how very cool. So often woman are so busy nurturing everyone else, it's a shock to have someone do it for us!

I had a girlfriend with really long hair and brushing her hair became one of our "connections" to each other.

Wow, all great and heartfelt experiences. The next time people can't think of ideas on how to treat their partner they should read this thread.

It is just showing the other how you feel. I would leave a note on the refrigrerator saying " I love you.". I liked to leave a rose taped to the steering well. It is alway's letting the person know how much better your life is, because their in it.

Mango, you never know...some girls might think that was just the most romantic thing in the world!
For some reason, your post reminded me of that James Spader/Jennifer Beals movie "The Secretary." Did anyone see it? It's about a couple that finally finds love through S&M. Very bizarre premise, but a very romantic movie in an odd way...just makes you go "awww!" at the end. I guess romance can be a relative thing, in certain cases.
(Disclaimer: no I am NOT into all that!! Please don't write and ask, lol!! It was just a movie, dammit... )
