I've had this conversation before, but wondered how many of you feel about it..
I know people who have and will NEVER walk into a restaurant ( even Mcd"s ) and sit down and eat by themselves......
Now I know many of you have younger children still living at home, so actually being totally alone is just a dream to many of you... j/k.....
I have been single for most of my life, traveled, worked a truck driver, so walking into a restaurant with someone feels a lil more weird than walking in alone...
Many " feel " like a loser, or think others see themselves that way..
One time I went out to eat for my birthday, my buddy was supposed to meet me for dinner, and called at the last minute and said he would meet me at a different bar later..... So I ate dinner, ( they used to give a free meal for your birthday ) so I asked if it was still free, the waitress explained they changed the policy, if you come in the day of your birthday, and you purchase two meals, you will receive a coupon for the next one free... The waitress felt so sorry for me eating alone, she bought me a desert out of her own pocket, walked throughout the bar and told everyone I was eating a birthday dinner alone and the whole bar came over to sing my Happy Birthday... Thought I was going to die !!!!!!!!!!! Then many of the folks invited me to join their table.... I tried to explain I was on way out the door to get shit faced with my buddy, and they all thought I was lying...
It was one of the sweetest things ever done for me, and yet made me feel about 1/2 inch tall at the same time.......That was the only time I ever felt weird eating alone.......
Oh, and one more question, have you ever seen a movie alone......? Me I have never done this, I enjoy the interaction .........as limited as it is...

blueyes101.................I eat out regularly and on my own......in restaurants......in Hotels.......anywhere really. I do many things on my own.......and am used to it. Go shopping on my own......go to movies on my own. Not all the time......sometimes I go with friends.......but many times they are working and too tired....so if I want to see a movie.....I go on my own..........and if I want to dine out.....I go on my own. Its not as much fun as having someone with you.....to chat to.........but doesnt stop me enjoying the meal or the movie or whatever....LOL

.......I know there are many people who dont like doing it.....or feel they cant do it so dont do it. The embarrassment is too overwhelming for them......godnose why....but its just the way they are I guess. But I get embarrassed at very little these days........maybe its a sign of my age.........lol

I have no problem eating out alone. Going to movies. Anything really.
It takes a little getting used to. But you get over it pretty quick. And I tend to hang out in cafe's and more relaxed eateries. So I just bring a good book and enjoy myself.

Sure, I go out to eat alone and to movies alone when I'm single. When I'm dating, I do those things with the guy I'm dating. It would be stupid to stay home alone all the time, because you're embarrased to do something by yourself. I'd much rather be alone than with the wrong person.

I don't have a problem with going out on my own at all. I do it pretty often, even when I'm in a relationship. I actually quite like my own company or the company of a good book.
This mainly applies to coffee, breakfast, lunch or a movie, though. I think, when it comes to dinner or drinks, I'd much rather have another human being for company!

The only thing that bugs me is I get all these two for one cupons for the buffets, and I can't use them! Otherwise eating alone is fine.

Long as I have a good read in tow, being alone never bothers me.

....I mean there are times when one has to be alone.....like going to the loo for instance.........LOL. Many people actually go to church on their own......well you cant talk anyway.....during the service usually. But I still think there is no substitute for good company to share with. However many people like their own company........many many are like that. I just wish I was one of them..........LOL I am a people person and enjoy peoples company.

Yeah, well I'm a grouchy old bastard, so you probably wouldn't want to eat with me.

I went to Arby's on my own once.
Otherwise I just can't do it. Going out to eat is usually a fun, communal thing for me and my friends. I met Rolf when Sam and I went out to eat with her boyfriend and his friends, Rolf being one of them.
I also can't see movies alone. Who will I make sarcastic comments to about how crap the movie is?

Oh good, film students are a pain in the butt, they all think they are the next Hitchcock or Spielberg, and can go on and on about framing shots and dolly moves and green screening until you want to shove a quart of popcorn in their yap just to keep them quiet for a while.
