The thought behind it, not the dollar value.
A simple princess cut with diamond baguettes is pretty, or a Black Hills Gold with diamond inset.

I never had one. I went for the gold instead!
If I was to advise though, a simple diamond, not a big gaudy one.

FYI I'm not asking because I'm thinking of asking. I'm just curious to see what some of you thought overall were on the engagement ring..

I just prefer a simple gold band.. I had an engagment ring, but the diamond was mounted so high, it kept snagging stuff and getting banged on furniture..

Emerald cut diamond would be beautiful. Every girl dreams.
But I would do just a gold band. IF he wore his wedding ring ALL the time.

Why is it that answers to this type of question in a forum always say one thing, and every girl I ever met says another?
Forum: "Oh just something simple. A piece of coat hanger wire twisted into a band will do. Doesn't even have to be perfect circle."
Reality: "2 karats! Are you kidding? Lisa's was at least 3 and John only knew her for 6 months when they got engaged!"

I never wear mine. Of course, I never wear my band either. I don't like a lot of jewelry. Always in the lotion. However, something special to the two of you is what makes it a special ring. I know a woman whose husband designed a band with a gold teacup and saucer on sitting on the top of the band where a diamond would be. It was inscribed, "my cup runneth over". And later, he filled the cup with a diamond. It's the symbolism, the uniqueness for me. Tradition isn't all it's cracked up to be, if you're sitting with 2 cts. and it means nothing to you.

I don't think so Painter... I think it's just something the type of girl I like, likes.
To be honest with you, I like that they want something beautiful and special like that. I makes me feel good knowing I can give it to them and make them feel special that way.
Now all I have to do is meet one I want to marry!
But that isn't going to happen any time soon.

I had the nice ring too Painter.. but big showy jewelry just isn't my thing.. I wear a princess ring that belonged to my grandmother.. the diamonds are so small if one was missing you would never know it.. but I love this ring because when Lizzie bought it, she went straight to her lawyer and added to her will that I was to get it upon her death. Lazareth has her wedding set.. and they are gorgeous.. but this one means more to me than anything I wear.

I know!
It's so obnoxious, no one would think it was real. I'd never get robbed.
It's next on my wish list.
