I was just curious if anyone here has actually done the on line dating thing successfully with someone at a distance....I already have my own horror stories, so I'm not gonna go into those...what I'm interested in are those that have actually worked? I have a feeling that I'm not going to hear from too many of you...sigh!!

Heck yes! There are a bunch on this site!
Touch and Emmy are my favorite.
Sky and Feetz.
Good grief...the list goes on.
Many happy couples.

Yes, I have been wonderfully successful, our relationship is more than just long distance, it's international, which adds a whole other layer of complexity to it.
I can't even imagine a better partner than Em, she's smart, has a wonderful sense of humor, is the kindest person I've ever met, and on top of all that, she's gorgeous too! What more could a guy want?
Find the right person, and it DOES work!
BTW, you might want to check out the Success stories forum for a lot more stories of relationships that work.

Yes & No. Very succesful in terms of daily contact & caring. In some ways long distance relationships can be stronger. Their isn't the element taking someone for granted. Which is a often a problem with "traditional" relationship.
Success in terms of settling down forever with my soul mate - not so much.

Yes, I've been in one for just a little under two years, and like ToucherinSparks and Empath, it's also international. We'll be long distance for years yet, until circumstances (kids) allow it to change and then we can be together full time.
Why are we together? Because we both know it's a kind of love we'll only find once in a life time.
What makes it work? Being a bit older (i.e, not young kids), we've been aroudn enough to realize what a precious gift we have. We both are strong and independent, and although it's hard(understatement) when we need a hug, or to give a hug, the other person isn't there....we deal, looking forward to the times we can be together. And we make the most of those times. We're both extremely loyal and the 'trust' factor that others talk about in relationships ........ simply is not an issue for us. There is no jealousy and no question that the other is faithful.
The truth is that we've both had thoughts, however fleeting, in which we've wished we never met the other person, when aching for the other person and being afraid of the day it would have to end. But that was in an earlier phase, and now, we're so entwined with each other....we'll just always be.
Also, neither of us are demanding people...demanding of either time or attention. Those that are, probably aren't good candidates for this time of set-up.

Well I did think at one time I had something going, but it only lasted for a little over 6 months... But what a wonderful time we had together. Now I have my eye set on anouther, and she knows who she is LOL We talk a lot on the phone. Just looking for someone that can truly commit then I will be so happy, and will be able to treat her like a queen. Waiting for that day, and I hope it's soon.

Speaking for myself I barely have time to get together with someone who lives close by. There is no way I have the time for a long distance relationship. It seems to work in maybe 1 out of 100 cases (if that), but let's face it, it's a long shot.
It's very difficult to really get to know someone under any circumstances...and even without complications, most relationships end up not working out. Anything that complicates the process, such as their being far away, makes it all that much more difficult and unlikely to work.
