I wonder why almost everything related to love people define in terms resembling the ones of water : "falling in love" , "deep feelings" , "shallow" ,"level" etc. How come and what does liquid substance has to do with emotional state?

But what about "hard as a rock", "buns of steel", "hitting it like a sledge hammer", "balls like grapefruit", etc. none of those have anything to do with salt or water...

Not everyone uses them, and some that do don't always.
It's just passed on through time....have you gone to Ask to find out?

Nice, CW!

Can you tell which one of us in a great relationship?

"shallow" ,"level"

I've never heard of it being described by this. Can you elaborate?

Yeah...I though "level" had something to do with wood.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

LOL...touch...your examples of word choices are hardly about "emotional state"/love ,but rather about "genital arousal" /lust- which is not exactly the topic ( though, no one would deny that it's somehow related )

Cats, the words "being shallow" ( in relationship) and "taking relationship to the new level" are rather widely used , I'm surprised you managed not to come across them so far .

Well...this might be also the case...once in a while
No apology's necessary, I like the way you think

Hmmmm.... never looked at it like that!!

My thoughts :
Maybe love is dynamic - always changing .....solid yesterday, unstable today and gone by tomorrow??

But...cap..isn’t it obvious? Love IS special environment - as different from common emotional state as water is different from air. Just recall how you felt the last time it happened to you. Every perception is altered - even gravity is denied.
And since love is “stored” in three locations on human body , the analogy with water reaching different levels is totally accurate - “shallow” when it only reaches “lower drive” ; “deep” when it gets to the heart . “Falling in love” is like diving into water - it overtakes brain, heart and crotch , all at once.
And when we “fall out of love” - it goes the opposite way : first the brain “surfaces” , then heart , while lust might still be “under water” for a while .

Maybe because so many tend to view them as verbal manafestations of physical sensations, ie., "being empty without one," or "brimming with love,"

Wow, newlife, what a poetic post ! I guess you nailed the issue , thanks for the beautiful input . Indeed , falling in love feels like diving . No wonder they say : " she takes my breath away "?

How Deep Is Your Love Lyrics
Artist(Band):The Bee Gees

I know your eyes in the morning sun
I feel you touch me in the pouring rain

And the moment that you wander far from me
I wanna feel you in my arms again

And you come to me on a summer breeze
Keep me warm in your love
Then you softly leave
And it's me you need to show
How deep is your love?

How deep is your love
How deep is your love
I really mean to learn
'Cause we're living in a world of fools
Breakin’ us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
You're the light in my deepest, darkest hour
You're my saviour when I fall

And you may not think I care for you
When you know down inside
That I really do

And it's me you need to show
How deep is your love?
How deep is your love
How deep is your love
I really mean to learn
'Cause we're living in a world of fools
Breakin’ us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

And you come to me on a summer breeze,
Keep me warm in your love
Then you softly leave
And it's me you need to show
How deep is your love?

How deep is your love
How deep is your love
I really mean to learn
'Cause we're living in a world of fools
Breakin’ us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

I think it probably has to do with depth and what has depth but water?

Love has also been described higher than a mountain, wider than a river, floating on air, walking on the clouds.

I love cw's definition.
Love is definitely blood, sweat and tears.
