Capital makes a good point here. Shopping for gift together makes perfect foreplay. You'll have a chance to choose a perfume which you like on her most - and you'll be enjoying the scent during your stay.
As for kids - they just love shopping together for whatever gift is appropriate for their age. Don't worry, they are not likely to bankrupt you, normally kids are not greedy , it's more "window shopping" that they enjoy - i.e. the process itself, quality time together with their new friend.
( BTW,contrary to popular belief , the very same applies to women ). ...
