We all know that communication plays a huge role inside successful relationships. My question is:
Is it possible to communicate too much?
What are your thoughts and experiences?

Only when you babble. I do that quite well by the way. I know this when Haban's eyes start to glass over and he reached for the rum bottle.

It is absolutely possible to communicate too much.
Some thoughts should be kept private.
That single sentence should make the answer clear.
And some people use communication about their personal lives as some kind of therapy. They don't understand or care that the other persons who are listening to that communication may not want to hear it. That is just ignorant and/or rude. They should save that for their therapists or someone who gives a crap. .

Sometimes people should stop before they speak, because saying too much at the wrong time, or wording it badly, or lengthy, may not fit the situation.

I think at some point, in a relationship, if you SAY the same things over and over again, you have to acknowledge he's HEARD you say them over and over again. And at that point, you have to acknowledge if there's no action taken, there probably won't be...and just either let it go, or throw in the towel. When the communication becomes one way...it's a sign it's too much. jmo

I think so...there are some things that just not need to be shared...I don't care to know every little detail of a person's past, for instance and they don't need to know mine. I think it is important to share what is necessary and not to omit something important, but to continually "share" with another person things that they really dont' care about or need to know can be very annoying...in my opinion, of course.

Definitely! I'm learning to open up only to those who really count and care about me in my life. I now tend to get to know a person and their agenda better before I give away too much of myself.

You can say too much too soon IMO. It's all in the comfort level of both people, I'm a fairly private person, so noone's gonna get my life story right off the bat. That's what I'm a firm believe that especially early on, it's best to just see if you can relax and have some good old conversation. Tell stories is good, gak..anything's better than the shot gun interview dates. ANYTHING! Where'd you go to high school? (Gee I left my transcript in my other purse) How long have you lived here? (Right up until now) How many brothers and sisters do you have? (I don't have them I let them go) What do you do for a living? (Nothing...I just breathe and it seems to take care of itself) Okay...you get the point.

Arrghhh...I hate those dates!!! If I wanted the third degree, I'd do something fun and get arrested!!! At least I would get personalized attention, my picture taken, someone would hold my hand (granted, they would be finger printing me at the time, but what the hell)...I'd even get to ride in the back seat for a change!!!

Oops, did I say too much? I guess I should have just thought it and not said it out loud but that is one of my problems (one of many!) I speak before I think and I'm extremely NOSEY!

I guess I should have just thought it and not said it out loud but that is one of my problems (one of many!) I speak before I think and I'm extremely NOSEY! Guess again, sweetie...thinking's way overrated. You're fine...wow if I thought out loud...HERE? Can't think before you speak...well I read it somewhere. You're not that nosey....ehhh...another trauma from my past...at least your nose isn't WET. (don't ask!)

Woof Woof??? And not asking where he was pokin the nose!! Him or the dog! (oops did I say that?) Not a happy place. Just thankful I had subscribed to a magazine and not thrown out the last copy. They're handy for other things than reading!
Ehh...yeah and my last subscription was to Reader's Digest. (If you get the visual on that...extra points)
Welcome to MY world..you're lucky..just to maybe stop in for a visit and run...I gotta live here.

It's always good to start the conversation with "When did you have your sex change operation?"
