Here is my pick o' the day ... from another Web site.

My apologies to anyone who may have attended Syracuse University (or perhaps I should say my condolences.). You would think that someone WHOM has obtained a masters degree in an English language related subject would be able to speak proper English. How the heck does this happen? Perhaps my expectations are too high. Have we dumbed down college THAT MUCH?

Here ya go ...

Currently, I obtained my master's degree at Syracuse University in speech language pathology. I am looking for a male on my caliber.
...
I am definitely a sexy female, whom loves to dress sexy every day of the week.
...
I would like a male who knows how to treat a woman like a lady at all times, but whom knows how to lighten the mood by being humorous.
...
I would like a male whom is attractive, but who is able to look past appearance in a lady and also try to get to know her personality as well.

I hope she finds that male whom is on her caliber. Perhaps an English as a Second Language class for immigrants would be a good place to look.
.

Yeah, but the scary part is that the one I posted above is REAL.

How the heck can you make it past the graduate degree level, in an English language related subject much less any other subject, without being able to compose a proper sentence or understand basic grammar.

If someone from my school had written that I think they'd have their degree revoked.

I think it's sad that any degree can be obtained without being able to compose a proper sentence or understand basic grammar - not to mention punctuation and capitalization. No wonder there seems to be so many educated idiots out there!!!!! It is doubly sad when one takes into consideration that our society has the mindset that an education signifies intelligence! Give me the not so common "common sense" any day!!!

We all make mistakes and typos (DR forgot his question mark and I'm far from perfect), but, Good Lord, give me a break!!!!!

Edited for a typo!!! Geez!!!!

I can understand capitalization and punctuation flaws when it comes to writing a dating profile. There are various degrees of informality when writing on the Internet and they vary with the type of thing you are writing. Certainly there is SOME latitude in a dating profile. Perfection is not expected.

In these forums, for example, there is no need for perfect grammar, punctuation or sentence structure. As a matter of fact, it's often more fun without it.

But usually, among the educated, even in informal online arenas, the flaws are a matter of expedience, carelessness or just fun, not a matter of a poor grasp of the English language (particularly for native born English speakers). There is a big difference between a typo, and the clear misuse of the language. It's not hard to distinguish that difference.

It's so disheartening to see that someone can make it all the way through the university system in this country and still not have a grasp on the language. Language, borders and culture are the fabric of a nation. All three are being seriously eroded.

Soon there will be no one left to date!

Writing and reading many posts here I learned how English is rich of shade of meaning
For example yesterday I found out that "fish" means also prisoner......

One language is always in evolution and in progress...... ....just a native can understand his/her idiom at 100%

I am always impressed by people like you Bluebonnet who take the time to learn English.

I wish the current crop of our own immigrants would have the decency to do what you have done without even living here.

Of course you are forgiven for any language errors you may make...you do not live here and English is not your first language. You deserve a lot of credit just for making an effort!

Thank you Dr

I love your language and your culture
This is the best place where I can improve my knowledges thanks to your help and support

In the meantime I can understand why immigrants choose Usa
This is not a good period for Americans and Europeans as well.......but the myth of Usa is still alive in our minds
America represents the land of opportunities where dreams could become truth more than here
I strongly hate when immigrants move to one nation and they have not any respect for the uses and culture of the host country.....like the Italians.....
I guess that Italians have not a good reputation because of the mafia and what they have taken with it

I would add that we as Americans should make an effort to speak the national language of whatever country we visit. When I went to Spain years ago in the military I spoke a little Spanish. Most of the locals spoke English as well, but they respected me more for the fact that I at least tried to converse in their native tongue.

I agree lobo. It's a nice courtesy to try to speak the language when you visit another country. Unless, of course it is anything like the mangled French I try to speak when visiting France. I think the French people declared a national holiday each time I left. Hey, I did my best.

Bluebonnet ... I have been to Rome, Florence and Venice. But I have not been anywhere in Europe in quite a few years. Next time I go to Italy, I would love to really see the Amalfi Coast. I know it is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
