Friday Night Syndrome

I've been hanging around dating sites way too long. And there are certain phenomena that are apparent on all sites.

One of the most interesting ones is what I call Friday Night Syndrome.

Many dating sites, like MD, show you the number of people that are online at the present time. From careful observation, I've seen that Friday nights are not the busiest night of the week, but they hold their own in the sense that there are still plenty of people on the sites.

HOWEVER, it seems pretty clear to me that some people will not post anything or write any e-mails on Friday night and just come on the site to lurk. Seems to me that there are more non-talkers on Friday night than any other night. It would be easy to measure if you have access to the data.

Why would people do this?

My theory is that some people don't want to reveal that they aren't occupied with social activities on Friday nights because they think it might make them appear less desirable in an environment that is about dating. Kinda like when you were a teenager and didn't answer the phone when that hot chick called on a Friday night so she would think you actually had someone better to be with. Yeah right!

Guess I haven't caught the bug myself.

I would agree with that bit of wisdom, Diamond, but then I'd admit that I'm here. Forget my face..... lol

Does anyone remember partying until 4 am and then looking for an after hours club? Those were the days and I came to the realization a few years back, that those days weren't coming back. I could care less what people think what I'm doing on a Friday night. It comes with maturity and acceptance for who I am. If I feel like going out, or calling someone to go out on a date, I will do so. If I feel like chilling out on the couch and watching the Yankees play, I will do so regardless of what others think. I post in these forums because of the wonderful people here who have accepted me as a relative newcomer.

I remember caring what people thought. Those days are long gone.

I'm not interested in anybody who is impressed by my being on a date with someone else anyway. That's for kids.

I am so thrilled when Friday nite comes that I can hardly stand it! Friday means I can stay online longer and I don't have to get up at 5 am Sat. morning. I'm tired by the time Friday rolls around and don't want to go out anyway.

Tonight's unusual, spending it over at my sweetie's, we'll be BBQing and ahem...but usually Friday night's me falling asleep in front of the TV by 8:30 or 9.

I may not be posting, but it's usually cuz I'm studying the inside of my eyelids as I crash.

As a norm, I don't need more than 6 1/2 hours of sleep on a weeknight. If I am asleep by midnight, I will be awake and fairly spry at 6:30AM.

Like SignMe, I love Friday nights and the idea of being completely free to stay up all night if I choose, even have a martini ( or two) since I don't have work the next morning.

How ironic I find it that frequently, while being so very relaxed after a stressed week at work, I cannot stay awake past 9 or 10PM and find myself falling into the keyboard. I believe that relaxation prompts me to "catch up" on the sleep I actually DID need during the week.

I can't help but wonder if that rarity (often called a "date") actually came to pass some Friday night, I might be too tired to perform the exploratory probe on it.

I think some come here for something to do, but if the threads are slow, so is the posting. many probably just catch up on older threads, or read blogs. Possibly waiting for more to show up. Or for the drinks to set in......

I'm not just a lurker ... See? I've posted!
I'm with SignMe in being thrilled about not having to set that alarm for 5AM ... Oh yeah, I may sleep in until 7!
I am so hedonistic!

Should be finishing up a few chores here. I have 2 new beds being delievered tomorrow. You know that pic of me with "A couple of my favorite boys"? They are barely to my shoulders in that picture & now four years later the younger one (15) is 6'2' & the soon to be 17 year old is 5'11'. They had to have bigger beds!

But I will linger & lurk & lounge about the forums a bit longer ....

Right now I'd much rather post here and try to make some friends, etc., than go look for a one nighter. I'm not in a big hurry to find someone new, but sooner would be better than later. Therefore I don't care what people think. It's an automatic filter to weed out the people who are too superficial for my taste.

One thing's for sure, there aren't that many threads that catch my attention enough to want to post. Obviously this one worked

I'm kind of a homebody...
and not big on the bar scene, except once in awhile to shoot pool.

I rarely lurk.
And Fridays use to be a BLAST here!
